REV Track 3, is called "Run and Hide" and was written in Nov 2005. This song is about my friend back home who was struggling with a relationship and at the same time, to disguise the identity of who the song was written for/about, I wanted my production of the track to reflect my own experiences at university, and maybe that of other friends. It's really about having very strong empathy that feeds a need to help which cannot be fulfilled leaving a sense of desperation that hands are tied.
The construction of this song is akin to my earliest works, which were very soundtrack-like. I had a vision for this song, to be kind of connected to my real life at the time. So, taking an experience of another friend at Uleth who was struggling to get any work done because he was living in the dorm (I lived in my own place far from campus) and everything was a constant interruption, I merged his experience with my friends back home for the thrust of the narrative.
So this song tries to convey the imagery that you are working away at your (fill in the blank - late school report here) report, and the folks in the next room, just want to party, so as we feel the student trying to work, he gives up and goes next door to tell them to turn it down, and as he opens the door, we get sucked in and the song and the real story take over. When the song is almost done, the student flips the needle off the LP killing the song and goes back to work.
This was written in Lethbridge AB While I was attending university. New technologies led to a new approach to recording, which took place in Fort Smith before heading back to Uleth for the fall semester. Instruments and vocals are by myself.
