Last fall I replaced the OEM Continental PROCONTACT GX SSR tires on my 2016 W222 4MATIC with the Continental EXTREMECONTACT DWS 06 PLUS tires. I had a dramatic change with the S550 ride. The new tires provide superior ride, winter traction, handling, and they are more fuel efficient. I added a tire fix kit and jack to my trunk since they are not run-flat. Very happy with vehicle.

Bought my C class with runflats and in the trunk there was absolutely nothing in it except the yellow vest and the first aid kit. No tire repair kit, no jack, no pump. Just empty. Gotta say I love the free space. But this winter I needed new tires and could only find the non run flats. So I had to get the spare, the jack, the tools... Will throw a in compressor for good measure. But the space in the trunk suffered a lot just because of the extra wheel. Shame there's no place for it in the underboot compartment.

Correct. I place my spare run flat tires in the trunk and make do wirh the little space when I go food shopping. I'm im taking someone to the airport the spare tires cones out. Worst case scenario is AAA to the rescue if I need it to tow me back to my house to get my spare.

My car came with different tires sizes for the front and back. It is a 4Matic. The back tires are bigger like a racecar. The car is also very heavy. Changing tires every 2 years depends primarily on the tire brand you buy. I go to www.tirerack.com to look at my tires as well as the reviews. Another reason for bigger tires in the back I would presume, much of the weight is in the back, this would counter or prevent lunatic oversteering.

@@kashJam These are my tire recommendations. Front: 245/40ZR20 Rear: 275/35ZR20 Changing tires would depend how much you drive the car. Everyone will be different in different regions. Nice video cheers for that from a fellow w222 owner here in Europe. One question if I may I see you have mud flaps front and rear mind if I ask where you got them from? I checked with Mercedes they said they dont do them for the AMG body style. Oh watch out for moisture in your headlights I see it has starting already. I've tried everything to resolve this issue in the end I replace the desiccant gel packs myself every six months other wise it ends up in an expensive repair bill.

I ordered the mudflaps from Ebay. It came from China. I waited a month to recieved them. The seller had to call the holding facility here in the US to get it released and delivered to me. Thank you for the video, I had the same problem and now changed it. I have a question in regards to the pressure monitor system in the car (MB s class), will it get affected when I switch to normal tires also when I got a flat with my run-flat it gave me a warning saying run-flat, will the car get confused when switching to normal tires. Also, what type of tire company do you recommend, I changed to Dunlop.

@@mohanedalthagafi306 I had all 3 of my rims welded by a rim specialist. The last rim to be welded was my front left rim. He told me 1 more crack and I will need to throw that rim away. That scared the daylights out of me and I converted to regular tires that same day and bought a spare rim for the front. Now all my tires are regular tires.

I'm not sure if this was asked but what size tire did u go with for your spare since front and rear is staggered and have u had any issues with the spare not matching the other side ex if ur passenger rear had the 245 (spare) and ur driver rear had 275 would that be safe to drive?

I got the smaller size tire that I used for the front 245/40/R20. The reason is they are universal meaning, you can use them as a spare tire in the front as well as the back.

Good vid. The one thing all owners should do is understand their tires and be prepared as you have shown. I have 20" AMG wheels with run flats. Hit a crack on the freeway at low speed and bulged the sidewall. I had the dealer change the tire, cleaned the tire and rim but did not think to check the rim for cracks Was the cracked rim Mercedes or aftermarket?

The cracked rim was Mercedes. After repairing 3 cracks rims, I had enough. I can only imagine how many other people are going through this.

@@WayneARobertson it seems low profiled tires and heavy cars are a poor mix. Tesla's with 21's often have problems, and like MB, do not have a spare wheel/tire.

The W221 comes with a spare tire and tools. I heard the spare tire can be used on W222. does anyone have a photo of the tire P/N and the trunk spare tire bed so I can purchase and add it to my W222?

We should treat The Run on flat tires as regular ones: stop driving when pressure is low! The main issue here is the low profile of tires or the big diameter of rims! They are just a garbage design for non-race cars! Rims get cracked easily on regular roads! If I were to replace a rim, I would try to get a regular size rim with a normal size tire! S550 is not a race car, is it?!

The rims were never changed, just repaired by a rim specialist. I have regular tires now instead of run flats on all 4. My spare tire is run flat and it's the only tire and rim that are new. The rides is so much better with regular tires. The rim size for the front is 245/40R20 and the back tires are 275/35R20. This is called staggard. These rims came with the car from the Mercedes Benz Dealership.

Totally late on this but sometimes accomplishing something yourself, even something as small as changing a flat, can empower you, make you feel better about yourself, like you are capable. We get too used to calling a number or pushing a button to have someone or something else solve our problems. Just my opinion. Lord knows not many younger than me can drive a manual (late 30’s) and probably can’t fix a flat (and I don’t mean with a can called that 😅). A few years back when buying a new car one used to be able to choose to buy an automatic or a standard. Then you had to start ordering standards. Now they don’t even make them.

There is NO RUN FLATS on Normal Vehicles..Maybe Run few more Miles on the Tires call “RUN FLATS”.. In Case have a Nail or Small Leak..But that is it…..Run Flats only Exist on Road Work Machinery…

@zezu4775 If that was the case when I purchase both my 2016 S550 and my 2018 S560 then I would get a spare tire in the trunk. Call the Dealership and they will tell you the same. That is the reason they did away with spare tires.
