Mike was the best tournament player of that Era. The 2005 wsop main event field was not small by any means. It was a great accomplishment. Had a lot of respect for his game and always wanted him to win while watching him on ESPN.

I think Matusow was the first player to win $1 million+ in 2 tournaments in the same year. Now there are tournaments that are a $1million dollar buy in. He was the master at big fields back then. 2004 had like 4000+ players and 2005 I think 5000+. And 2008 he went deep got 30 out of like 5500

Steve Dannemann As an Aussie I obviously wanted Diamond Joe win, however, can i just say from all the footage that I have seen over the last couple of years on youtube, you played so well, but not just that, you played with grace, integrity and seemed like a genuinely nice person, i think you said to Joe heads up, Can you believe we are sitting here, or something like that, I thought that was great,

The ruling for both getting a penalty is terrible. Mike was 100% right.
@Scott-wq5lk

He dropped the F bomb, which is a penalty in a WSOP tournament. Admittedly it’s not always enforced (I.e. Hellmuth) but it was within the rules to penalize Matusow for dropping the F bomb in retaliation.

Mike has been out of order with his mouth before but he was correct about Sheeky getting angry and showing that he would have hit the flop. Keep your mouth shut. Matusow was the only player to make the final table and last two tables back to back. I don't think anyone has done it since. Raymer played back at Mike in 04

nhpja65 he had to go to jail for something he didn’t do, exactly. He didn’t rat, as was requested by the authorities, therefore having to go to jail. That is why he says it like that, even though he terms it in a mistaken manner.

nhpja65 I know exactly what he did, according to his claims. I’m saying why he is saying it like that. He was being accused of being a drug dealer(and not just a drug doer with an abundance of drugs). So being a “drug dealer” is something he didn’t do, cooperating is something, once again, he didn’t do, according to him. You’re parsing words and so isn’t he. Give the guy a fucking break, he looks like he’s a had a pretty rough last ten years. If anything he deserves credit for being able to put on a happy face from time to time. I sure as hell know that I wouldn’t be able to, and i probably haven’t had it half as bad as he has. And, once again, if he went to jail and his claim is that he didn’t rat and he shut his mouth, that is exactly why he went to jail, cause if he did rat he would’ve avoided jail.

Matusow was a convicted drugs dealer, Sheikhan was a convicted child molester. You meet a better quality person at the poker table.
@PoppysGuitar
@PoppysGuitar 4 жыл бұрын
It's in his book, Check Raising the Devil. Basically he had a reputation for drug use. What happened is, IIRC, is that Matusow set up a drug transaction for a friend of a friend. The friend turned out to be a Metro undercover narc. It's a common lament of people who are involved in personal drug usage. A "friend" says "do me a favor this one time and get me X amount. (usually felony weight) Sometimes they just give the friend the drug and don't ask for money. It doesn't matter. It won't save you. Selling drugs is much worse than possession for personal use. You are a "drug dealer". Regardless, Mike had to cop and do some local jail time. Mike was set up but every person busted for a drug sale is set up. Still, other than recreational use, Mike appears to have been a square John. He had no priors and wasn't known as a dealer.
