Guys what I didn’t understand is the rom folders. For example my Roms are not under the launchbox directory but on a different one (on the same hdd) in my pc. What do I do? Should I transfer both directories (launch box and roms) onto the new external drive? Would that work?

If you want to make LaunchBox completely portable, you will have to move the ROM files, either inside your LaunchBox folder, or within a relative path that you can also put on your portable drive.

Thank you fot this! I got everything setup but when I plug it into a different pc...there is no sound. The game plays perfectly other than that. I check my computer sound settings and everything is fine.

@ETA PRIME You may want to consider making an Autorun file to automatically launch LaunchBox when you plug in the USB drive.

Is there an easy way to move the ROM collections to the Launchbox folder after the fact?
@UnbrokenSoftwareLLC3 жыл бұрын
You can always use the tool called "Change ROMs Folder Path for Selected Games". However, just note that if your games are in multiple files, it will only move the file associated with your game entry. You'll have to manually move the rest over.

This is how mine is set up, my only issue is wiiU, because those games can't be imported properly into the portable folder. Can you place them there prior to "importing' them into launchbox, in their named folders? I'm tempted to try, but I don't want to accidentally mix up the different files as the naming scheme is all the same. :/

.Net 3.1 was the newest at the time of the video, .NET 7.0 is the latest one. Can I run the newest one or do I need the 3.1 ver.?
@UnbrokenSoftwareLLC2 жыл бұрын
.NET CORE 3.1 is still the version required for LaunchBox. That will change in the future, but at this time, it has not.

Probably best to ask the Kodi community about this.

Isn't the problem going to be different hardware on different machines so you may not get the best out of it. ie some emulators work better with Nvidia and some with AMD....So you set it up on an AMD graphics card machine and then move it to an Nvidia machine...You then have to change settings to get it to work well and then you move it back and again have to reconfigure it yet again.... It needs some sort of way to have different profiles for different machines.

Generally, if you use RetroArch for most platforms, it won't be an issue.

Great tutorial, thanks. What about the auto updaters for Launchbox and for the supported emulators? Will they run ok in portable?

Can't speak for every emulator, but LaunchBox updates should install just fine.

Hey ETA! Thanks as always for great tutorial! Quick question for you, in your previous guides you've always recommended putting emulators in the Launchbox folder to make them portable. My question is, there are some emulators that are tied to the registry. If you follow your advice and put all those in the the Launchbox folder, will those emulators still be portable if you put them in the Launchbox folder and move them a new PC that you haven't ever run those games and emulators on?
@UnbrokenSoftwareLLC3 жыл бұрын
Most emulators have a way to turn them into portable versions. Each emulator may require a different settings change, or txt file added to its folder. This is something you'd have to do on a per-emulator basis in order to make them completely portable. It will all depend on which emulators you have in your library.
