As a teenager of the 80s, I was always into classic rock. I used to give my younger sister a hard time because she was into "New Wave." I always thought it was light and weak. She had all of these albums - yes, on vinyl. This song is one of many that I would hear playing in her bedroom behind her closed door. I think part of the reason she closed her door was because of my childish, snobbish, intolerant, holier-than-thou attitude about music. Maybe I wasn't that bad, but it sure seems that way as I listen to all of these gems at 50 years old, missing her terribly. RIP, I love you.

This song holds many memories for me. When I split from my husband at a joint family occasion he had it dedicated to me, loudly booming out the speakers, I felt a bit embarrassed. We never got back together. But it was played at his funeral. I’ve never been out anywhere and heard this played by anyone else apart from me and the ex. On the morning of his funeral I’d popped to Tesco with my nephew, got a sandwich and decided we’d sit on a bench in the foray to eat. The usual supermarket songs were playing, then forever live and die played. I about choked on my sandwich! Oddly, I’ve not heard it play anywhere since!! I was so stunned that I actually recorded a bit of it. A few days later I told my daughter about it, she said, dad never stoped loving you and I think it was him letting you know he’s still about! Coincidence!! ❤

I never listened to OMD in the '80s (the particular layered synthy-ness of most electronic music of that era annoyed me), so I'd never heard this song until I was watching a show on Netflix. I'm shocked to find out it's so old! It doesn't sound at all dated the way most '80s music does. I was thinking it was by some new group that was just referencing a vintage sound.
