I highly recommend getting a hitch clamp. As you can see they take the play and unwanted movement out of the receiver and hitch. They also help your trailer connection to stay solid and stable on the back of the tow vehicle.

Great products. I think you installed the 2 inch one backwards. The 45 degree fold down should go facing the rear to rest against the smaller tube . This levels it out with the wider flange over the receiver .

Technically, you are correct as that is what most instructions say, but mechanically, it really doesn't make much of a difference as you want that downward force. When it comes down to it, it's mainly personal preference.

Cool videos! Well done and good camera angles to clearly see what you are doing. The only constructive comment I would make is that the angled edge of the bottom plate on your u-bolt style clamp should go the other way around. The angled edge goes against the draw bar and NOT against the receiver as you have shown. This keeps the plate horizontal when you tighten it up and keeps if from jamming against the threads. It works your way. Just not as well. Also see the spec sheets that come with the U-bolt clamp. Small thing. Otherwise, fun videos to watch !

Great advice I will take Thank You!!! I have not even bought my RV yet. I do not believe my dad ever had any hitch clamps when we carted out boat around. Nor any stabalizer bars. No You Tube back then. We thought we were 'big time' when we went, from a hand cranked winch for pulling the boat up the trailer, to a key operated electric winch.

I have had Super Strut clamps on my hitch for twenty plus years. It works better with the bottom plate turned the other way. It sits flatter for the nuts to apply pressure. They have them in the electrical section at home depo and such. It's way cheaper to buy them as Super Strut clamps than it is to buy them rebranded as a hitch clamp.

Concerning the 2-1/2", think about what you have done. You have lifted the hitch with the device so that the entire hitch weight is now carried by the single bolt that tightens it together. The 2" is backwards, according to most manuf. instructions, but at least it clamps the hitch down in the receiver.

Too bad you put the clamp on wrong. The bent part goes onto the tow bar - not the receiver. Also, the orientation with the plate on the bottom means you are lifting the entire male hitch and will stretch and loosen the bolts over time. Better to flip the clamp the other way so it pushes down on the hitch bar. blob:null/04a06ca0-31cc-489b-bc90-3c69ddc6a8ff

We use a weight distribution hitch. As much torque force as it puts on the gigantic hitch that goes with it, I don’t think it flops around at all. It’s always putting a forward down-angle on it, to pull the back of the truck upwards, like someone holding wheelbarrow. So it doesn’t move at all. I noticed yours is pretty loose. You probably need it. Or maybe a new hitch. Cause that’s damn loose.

Hi J Doe, You are correct my instructions showed the same yours. I have used it that way but I have also found that depending on which hitch mount I use it works best in different directions. I've also had to use in on top of the hitch mount. I found that putting the bent flange over the reinforced lip of the hitch really help hold it tight and in place. The Ubolt my be at a slight angle but still works well. I recommend you follow the instructions for your hitch clamp. Thanks for commenting and watching! ~ Todd

On the 2” hitch lock you need to flip the metal plate around so the bent part is on the hitch. Also when a trailer is on there I don’t see the issue with it being a tad loose. Most trucks my entire life have had some play and one you learn how it’s moving around it’s no biggie. Now I can see it helping to keep the noise down when your not pulling a trailer but when the trailer is hooked up not needed.
