If your flight controller has some internal memory or an sd card slot, your can log the gyro data using the blackbox logging feature. You can then use Gyroflow with any camera, including this one.

Hey Albert, I've never used an action camera on a quad, so I was wondering if that black 3D printed mount would have reduced the jello any? or was that one too rigid also? I'm assuming that there is no brightness or focus adjustments that can be made by connecting the Thumb to a computer, so it's probably better to wait for the Thumb V2 if there ever is one; correct?

I deliberately did not use that black one because they told me it was low quality and that they plan to replace it so using it would not be fair for the review. That being said, it's still about as rigid as the clear plastic one so something else is needed for the jello. There are no adjustments to the video settings AFAIK. So they need to fix it in firmware.

@@gargolaconrad3188 yea im with you on that I thought the same.I thinking on my beta95x with the dampening soft mounts it has then using tpu mount just like if insta 360 go would give this a fair test comparison to a real world whoop that has all that took into account. Maybe the jello would be gone on or atleast alot better. Just throwing it on an quad with the ridget mount to try an get out a fast video I get it man. Maybe now that he got this review out fast another one done with better mount an whoop made for this would be a really nice 2nd video.

Not too bad for $50....will wait to see when Gyroflow is added. Also, unless the user is using that mount in your video, which may block the door from popping off, I can see that micro SD card door flying off on the first crash. Maybe a screw would fix that, since you can download from the device directly without removing the card all the time.

Something I would suggest for a future video is a example for what it could do with a little finesse in post. I took a screenshot and did some color grading in Lightroom to give myself a little teaser. But considering the fact that it might not work with gyroflow makes the grading less interesting

I wonder about the differences in Flightperformace and -efficiency on these compared to carrying a Insta Go 2 or Caddx Peanut. if it would only be able to run on 3,5 volts.

Hey, stabilized footage with only 10g added is definitely a selling point. You could mount it to a mob7 or something and go through very tight gaps. For comparison a GoPro is far more expensive and is at least 30g (naked). Pretty big difference imho. What I just said is based on the probability that there will be stabilization, tho..

Different formats etc. what do you advice in my case.

Meh. Something about the color is off, just seems too washed out. The 1080P resolution is not the main drawback of this camera, it's the color. Something this small, you are not going to toss it on a cinelifter, you going to put it on something smaller that you are hitting gaps with so having a super high resolution doesn't really get you much, especially if you are wanting to introduce motion blur into it. This seems like the video quality you get from one of 808 keychain cameras. Maybe it's a firmware fix.

To move the Thumb between quads, I’d need to have that pigtail installed on each of the FCs? Oof. That’s too bad. I think that’s a deal breaker for me. Those pigtails can be bought on Amazon for about $5 for 20. If you need to move the camera around a lot the Insta360 GO 2 with internal battery is the way to go.

Albert, I have a BetaFPV 95X V3 and looking at getting an HD camera to capture footage. Which do you think is better the Hawkeye Firefly X Lite or the RunCam Thumb ? I probably would want to make use of GyroFlow (or similar) Going full-blown naked GoPro is a bit out of my price-range. Thanks for an awesome channel !

The Firefly X Lite has better image quality but their firmware has issues with producing proper gyro data just like the Thumb currently. I'm waiting for firmware updates for both.

There's a new firmware update out now. I will have a video about it soon. Also, you need to make sure the camera is soft mounted otherwise it doesn't work.

What firmware version was your camera? I just got my camera, upgraded firmware from v1.0.0 to v2.0.0 and neither writes any data that GyroFlow detects. There is just one mp4 file written, I wonder if it's just GF that does not know how to read gyro data, or maybe the firmware does not write anything? I just downloaded GyroFlow v1.0.0-rc4 and Thumb is listed as supported.

You have to write a file onto the sdcard that activates the gyro data recording that works with gyroflow

@Alfred Broda @Nwfpv got it right. It's also explained in the manual too. I have not tried V2.0 yet but it looks like the bug fixes were not for GYROflow in this release.

I hope in the future Runcam comes out with something closer to the insta360 go2. I would happily pay more for a better camera. For now, I just have to wait.

On small under 100g quads, which ones have blackbox? Almost none... On the larger quads, you may as well go for better image quality.

Because so many people complain that $100 cameras cost too much and they won't pay for it. So here's a $50 camera with less capabilities that is selling like hotcakes. These companies are in business to make money... this is what people actually buy. LOL.

I wonder if you have a power cable for naked gopro, if you can use that same power cable?

Depends on which one you have... not all the plugs are the same and polarity might be reversed on top of that. Furthermore, you can't plug in more than 5v unless you want to fry this camera.

i think the design is bad. just like the peanut. insta go 2 design makes sense. its a selfie came. for an fpv cam the lens should be at the end so the camera lays the long way. its off center.

@@AlbertKimTV wouldnt keep me from buying it. its very affordable. film quality looks good. light weight. if it was rectangular and the lens was at the end it would be centered, more aerodynamic so less wind slamming into the camera.

Did it include an ND filter? If so, that might help with the Jello, as I doubt all that's from the mount alone?
