@@fatgrizzly894 I share the sentiment, but only those who are slain in battle go to Odin's realm of Valhalla, or to Freya's realm of Folkvang. Those who die of sickness or old age go to Hel (not to be confused with the Christian "Hell"), however even Odin's son Baldr went there after he as killed by Hod. Those who die at sea go the the watery abode of the giantess Ran. There is also evidence of a belief that some of the deceased became elves. In the Saga of Olaf, the first Christian king of Norway, Olaf rides past the burial mound of his father, who is described as Olaf the Elf. In other tales, burial mounds are also the homes of elves. In much later Norwegian folk beliefs, elves on farms are conflated with the spirits of the land, the ancestors who once worked the farm. In the same Saga of Olaf, it is implied that Olaf the younger is the reincarnation of his father. many afterlife options!

Indeed, my friend. As a matter of fact, a lot of my friends tell me perhaps the rules have changed. Of course, we have no way to prove that, but we can only hope we all find ourselves worthy and do our best in our lives perhaps.

It's your wedding, your life, your path, your choice. Not theirs. If they won't allow themselves the honor of witnessing the beauty and power of the ceremony you know in your spirit to be worthy and true - it is their choice to remain behind you. Don't let them hold you back from your true self.

Beautiful ceremony, largely conjecture, pieced together from what bits of a Norse marriage ceremony we now of (not "viking", which was a profession), and those bits were in fact largely recorded by Christian monks. That doesn't mean of course that it isn't a valid and meaningful ceremony which draws from history. Questions: this Norwegian couple at a viking wedding in Norway had an English speaking acquaintance - who they met once - act as a gothi. Did the families understand? (We can assume the Gods did, as the Anglo-Saxons worshipped the same Gods :) "Understanding" is important, because a Norse marriage wasn't just the union of a man and a woman, it was a union of families, so it was important that family members understood the words of the ceremony. Finally, did the groom's family pay the customary "bride price" to her family when they were betrothed, and the dowry when they were married? :)
