RuneScape AFK Is Weird

RuneScape is always seen as this afk second monitor game by a lot of people, but the afk is actually really weird. Should Afk combat or Afk skills be changed. and is there only strict limitations due to the bots and botting problem.

I think the best of both worlds would be, make sweaty methods that give a ton of xp, and super afk methods that get you decent xp but next to no money making, but not as much xp as active methods. Put simply, I like to veg out while still getting some xp. I would love to be able to train agility while cooking dinner, then go to a more active method while eating.

I know a friend who got to max before any of us neared it because he played consistently but very afk. Over time it did actually add up like the turtle winning the race

usually afk turns me off of a game at first sight. But once you've put some time into your account and you're getting that rewarding feeling of progress, you find out, holy shit i can touch the screen once every 5 mins while i watch a movie and still make tons of progress! Thats when it gets exciting for me :D

Afk just means you are away from keyboard, 1 minute is able to give me time to go grab a drink and come back. Just because it isn't a game you can AFK indefinitely, doesn't mean it isn't AFK. My absolute favorite part about this game is is AFKing while doing other tasks. even if thats only for a few minutes, then it takes one click sometimes a few before I can afk again? seems pretty afk. Personally coming from World of Warcraft and playing a game that does not interact by itself, OSRS feels like a breath of fresh air.

You are correct yes it's afk, in the sense of doing things like wood cutting but when people will say something like bankstanding making wine etc is afk its just silly. It's not afk if you constantly have to baby sit it same as the people who claim fight caves is afk

There are many many aspects of the game where you need to be paying attention to whats happening, I agree that fight caves isnt afk, Sarachnis isnt afk, pvm in general isnt, other than afking in max pray for 10 minutes at a time. With that being said, I still play the game mainly afking, I pvm here and there when I want to play something more intensely, but my baseline gameplay is low intensity/AFK when possible.

Old timer was 5-6min. It was possible to afk bandits for 20min.

Old timer I think was 30 seconds to 1 minute max, it’s different when you was in combat though.

It’s unique. There are two types of ways to play. Some people prefer to sweat it out and earn maxminum xp or they prefer to afk with generally lower xp rates

Yeah for me it depends what kind of time i have on my hands. If i have a lot of work to do one week, I will be AFKing some skills. If I have the time, im training slayer and doing clues

I do a lot of AFKing while playing other games or cleaning the house. I get called a bot because my woodcutting is significantly higher than the rest of the my skills.

I like to true AFK like Dark Crabs with Elite & Fishing Barrel That or pure absorption NMZ. There's also redwoods & the like that offer decent quality AFK but in truth, I don't like afk either. Only when I'm watching a show or something that requires very quick clicks to reset I do but I'd rather get through the grind quickly with short burst of intensity than long term. That's to say the game shouldn't focus on this aspect too much as it's been fleshed out for all the skills in multiple ways, rather the good content of challenging focus is preferable now for me like hallowed sepulchre or raids

If they took away any reset timer it would strip alot of people from their achievements, training said skill. I think even a very afk activity, like rock crabs, should require some effort, even if it is only a few clicks every 10 mins. Also, you have to keep in mind that a lot of these super heavy afk methods, like fossil crabs for example, have relatively large drawbacks that come with the privilege of being so low effort. Like with fossil crabs, the xp is lacking to many other slightly more engaging combat like nmz, or combat with slayer helm. At crabs you are sacrificing all the loot you would get from training combat actively via slayer, as well as the xp and content unlocked from training combat actively through slayer and other activities. I am sure there are many other draw backs from spending too many hours afk training on an acc as well. I think one of the best parts of Osrs is the option to choose an activity that requires strategy and focus, or to choose something totally relaxing, or a balance in between, anytime the player wants.

I would like a little bit less randomness on semi afk skills. I'm fine being somewhat alert but its quite painfull to have 10 times in a row action stopped immeadedly the second you turn your back to it.

You make a great point. AFK at least in the case of runescape usually means low effort/not click intensive, but asking different people will give you many different results. If you were to ask a Zuk helm owner, you'd probably get told inferno, ToB and CG are all afk - which they most certainly aren't.

Thats why I prefer Ironman normal mode. You never have that pressure that someone else is doing it more efficiently because ironman inherently can't do the most "efficient" things since you cant sell anything on GE. Overall I think it just enhances the experience and adds so much more content over just buying what you need when stuck.

what about things like fishing? do you 3 tick or just stare at it as it slowly fishes? same with woodcutting. i try not to afk stuff too much, but it's nice to make skills go quicker by second monitoring them whilst playing another game

Runescape AFK is good to a point where you can pick a skill and do something for the 2-3 minutes it takes to fill an inventory Should it be afk to where you can afk combat all day? No But " putting in the effort or not " runescape requires a ridiculous amount of interactions to progress to 99 and people dont have time to spend doing that every day as is required Afk will always exist in some form and the game will always bave its 2nd monitor home But then.. is it really a game at that point ?

yes most likely but with ex jmod mat k also somewhat recently saying between 5- 10 percent i think its around 5-9 and less likely lower. still kind of crazy considering the concurrent player count being over 100k means at least 5000 bots.

I rarely afk unless its mining. The point of a game should be to play it not to watch netflix. With this said there are ocassions like when i am on mobile when intensity is not really wanted, so yeah there is good balance. as long as afk is not the best methode to lvl up.

Why tf would you want to play a game where you don't have to play? What would the point even be if you played for 3 minutes, then was afk for 2 hours only to play again for 3 minutes? That sound like the most boring and no-skill thing to do. And if you could just level up this way, it would completely devalue the whole meaning of having a progressive leveling system. If you don't have to do anything to train a skill, get xp or gold, then why would you even play the game, if it can just play itself... This is a huge part of why RS3 is such a failure (combined with a weird combat system and irl purchases that benefits the account)

No I've been working on this for like 6 days I work full time as well. Also there is a post about afk every other week just find it interesting the way the game is seen as second monitor yet everything you do requires constant baby sitting.
