The Canon EOS R8 Mirrorless camera is a thing of beauty. A compact clone of Canon's EOS R6 Mark II, this camera is a blast to use! ✅ My Photography Tips & Tricks Newsletter: mailchi.mp/dd3...

In this video, we're going on an in-depth review of the Canon EOS R8 mirrorless camera system. I had the opportunity to use the R8 with the: Canon RF 50mm F1.8 lens, RF 70-200 f4 lens and the 24-50mm f4.5 kit lens. The low-light performance of the R8's sensor blew me away for photography and video/filmmaking applications. This may be my new favorite run and gun camera for travel photography!

You can actually use the R8’s touchscreen to move focus pints while having your eye on the evf

I figured that out eventually, I just prefer having a tactile joystick like other camera systems.

As an owner of a R8 myself, I agree for the most part of your review. I especially liked how you highlighted the travel/street photography aspect with it's size, that's what I love about mine. But there are also a few things I want to point out: overheating for example isn't completely solved. Your review was during winter which of course makes a big difference, would have been nice if you mentioned it. I was hiking in the summer with the R8 attached to my backpack strap with a PD capture clip, and it got so hot that I couldn't take a 1 minute video. Ofc that's a pretty extreme example, the sun was shining directly on the rear of the camera for at least an hour, but at the same time it wasn't even that hot outside. In fact I wanted to film my friend sliding down a snowfield when it overheated. I haven't missed the joystick yet, because touch and drag is so awesome. Works much better and faster than a joystick IMO, by your commentary I guess you didn't know this feature existed. Only time I wished for a joystick is when wearing gloves.

The compact size of the R8 was great! I took it everywhere with me. I used the R8 indoors (70F) for family photos and real estate photos/video and didn't have any issues with overheating. The outdoor recording (14F) was definitely an extreme, but wasn't my only experience. You can't really blame the camera for overheating when it was baking in the sun for an hour though...

hey man i really want to get this camera, but im afraid because it doesn’t have IBIS and all my L glasses doesn’t have the IS (image stabilization). and im getting a hard time doing shots in night time with my old dslr, so do you think the IBIS is a Dealbreaker?? cause i often shoot in low light and i rather use my iphone bcs my old dslr is sucks at low light and will be blurry if i shots in low SS. Hope u answer this😊

The R8 is a great camera, but it's a tough call if IBIS is your main concern.

Bought the r8 as a backup for r5mark 2- the 85 f2 and 50 1.8 make it a great travel camera - it’s nice to have a light weight system for travel.

I've heard some folks mention that. Unfortunately, I had a limited time with the camera and wasn't able to figure it out in time. I still miss the physical analog joystick.

I currently have a Canon M50 and looking to upgrade. I like to travel and often take pictures in low lighting. Do you think the R8 is my best option for an upgrade? I have been tempted by the Canon R7 which currently is cheaper and comes with a 18-150 lens and although not full frame appears to favourably compare to the R8. I would appreciate your thoughts
@RunNGunPhoto
@RunNGunPhoto 6 ай бұрын
I'd say don't waste your time with the 18-150mm kit lens. They're cheaper quality glass & materials, and you'll lose a lot of the quality you're getting from upgrading. The R7 OR R8 would be a great upgrade from the M50, I'd personally lean full-frame. I think it's worth it in the long run.

I think for $1299 right now, the EOS R8 is a pretty hot deal: amzn.to/3WDA8fE You can also pick up the Canon RF 50mm f/1.8 for pretty cheap to get you started too: amzn.to/3WszuSc

Nope! Honestly just expose properly. A little noise won’t kill your photo and the difference between a stop up or down won’t make a difference.

If you usually look through the small viewfinder you can turn on a setting that lets you use half of the 3 inch screen to control the focus point. I use it, I love it.

I agree! Have you looked into the the R6? With pretty much identical specs, the R6 is only sightly more expensive than the R8... and it has 5-Axis IBIS. The R6 Mark II is also pretty cool, but there's a price tag to match 😅

@frostgodx

The electronic stabilization algorithm on the R8 and R6ii is probably the best in the business. Makes up for the lack of ibis 10 fold. Of course the ibis is always better but if your a video shooter on canon wider than 24mm becomes a massive problem with wobbly footage. This is just my observation in using Fuji lumix Sony and canon this year
@RunNGunPhoto
@RunNGunPhoto Жыл бұрын
@frostgodx Even with wide lenses the digital stabilization 1) crops the video terribly, and 2) isn’t that great. I was still getting jittery video on a 24mm or wider. Digital Stabilization doesn’t come close to making up for the lack of IBIS. If it did, IBIS probably wouldn’t be necessary anymore.

The viewfinder and lcd are 100% oke why the complaint? I cannot understand it. The cold usage is crap talk because in the manual it says not use below zero! So you wanna take a camera below zero and complain over it, thats nog right.
