This video has nothing to do with Jeeps, but its sick and I hope you enjoy! My brother and I use a vintage Big Stick log setup and load up some logs for firewood. I hope you find it entertaining!

Now that is unusual? I have seen several pieces of logging equipment but this is a first! Great job at being an original. Myself and my dad logged tong for over 18 years . We used a winch mounted trailer to back each log on truck in hook , place in middle of log to balance it and the reverse and place on truck, now that is work try that 20 or so times per load.oh well I was younger then well you know how it is . Well gotta go please be safe and thanks again for video as it was very informative.

I appreciate it. These trucks were common for pulp wooders. Most folks never used tongs with them because it’s so dangerous, they just don’t operate smoothly enough to be able to and thus chokers are safer. I’m glad you enjoyed it!

Man that is cool. We never could find a video on youtube of folks using one and that's why I decided to film it. I am planning on filming it more the next time we use it. Folks seem to like seeing it run.

When I was a kid my neighbor had one on a 72 Ford f700. I bought it after he died and still use it to haul firewood.

Nice easy gravy work😅😂. I've seen these around sawmills , but never been around one loading. It's much better than not having it , but still a lotta work , I can see

Y'all gotta fix your heel bar on bottom of boom. Head of log should bump it when cable choked just right..be able to swing it left or right drop in between a fly's ass cheeks

I agree, we need to do some work to it. We don't use it a lot so it always gets put off. It makes life easier for sure though, a lot easier than bringing a skid steer and another truck.

Up in Northern MI, WI these were common back in the day. They were called "jammers" or "cable jammers" here

@@redclaytraveler1949 yes they are and still handy. I have one on a 400 diesel farmall. They are the cats meow for logging your own property cuz you can skid logs as far as your cable will reach albeit one at a time, although I have tree length aspen and basswood and cut to length at the trailer to save time. Also try some logging tongs. Saves lots of ti.e hooking

Man that’s cool! We were talking about using tongs but we also wanted to test the rig out some before hand. We haven’t had a need to use it again in a while but we definitely will use tongs at some point I’m sure

I’ve been around those truck all my live but never saw anyone load like that. We rolled the truck up on higher on one side so the loader would drift over and hook in the middle. The logs would be on the side of the truck. It was way faster.

This was the first time we got a chance to use it and neither of us has seen one operating in person. We were testing it out and learning as we went, I appreciate the info. We are definitely not experts. lol

All I could think of about 15 seconds into this was "oh my God there are two of them"...I think to add to the list of safety gear you need would be a cant hook/pole instead of getting your hands in there when that log starts rolling around on the truck. I want Red Clay Traveler to come home safely to his new dog!
@redclaytraveler1949
@redclaytraveler1949 Жыл бұрын
I'm actually one of four. lol But this is the only brother I claim or love. lol We realized we forgot the cant hook as soon as we got there, which is weird because we have plenty of them around. lol Its only dangerous if it goes wrong. haha

if a fella dozed out a trench beside your log decks, where the truck could be parked four or five feet below ground level, you could load out with a small frontend loader.
@redclaytraveler1949
@redclaytraveler1949 7 ай бұрын
That’s true. When we got it home my brother unloaded it with a skid steer. More permanent setups like your talking about are really nice for sure. If we used it more often we would probably set something up like that to make it easier.

When it was a dump truck it didn’t always get great traction unless loaded. I would imagine it would be similar now, we haven’t had a chance to use it since I filmed this video unfortunately.
