A BMS could save you alot of problems! Thanks you for this video. Your first anwsered my question. I’m building a 7s 18650 pack and the bms secured everything.

Seems like a good use for those batteries.

Does the Ups try to float charge or equalize the new lithium battery ? Lithium needs constant current /voltage. So basically a on off type of charger. What's stopping this ups from floating a battery not designed to float charge ???

How does a 12v UPS charge a 12s +40v LiFePO4 pack?

Should it be 4.2v and not 3.4v per cell?

Does the UPS charge these using CC CV? Do these batteries need that type of charge?

Do you know what the max and min voltage this will take. Along with the amperage?

I made a lithium ion battery for an ultima LCD 2KVA EURO ups The battery was as follows: 30 cell bak high drain 4.2 v 3 A 5. The batteries were placed in 5 columns and 6 rows and thick nickel stripe was used for spot welding. I used BMS 6S.The problem is that in few seconds, not more than a minute, the battery gets extremely hot and smoke begins to appear. Please explain the error.

My question is, if this ups is designed for lead acid batteries. What is preventing it from trying to past what is ideal for these cells? Also, lead acid batteries will have a significant higher voltage cut off than lipo.

These are not lipo batteries, they are lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4). Four cells in series has a voltage range which matches a 12v lead acid battery. This pack has 12 groups of cells in series so it perfectly matches the voltage range for this ups which had three 12v batteries.

@@DIYbatteries Good choice. Lithium Ion is dangerous even when charged properly. I'd hate to have a lithium fire, and lithium iron is pretty resistant-in fact, it's probably about as safe as the original lead acid with the higher capacity. Great job!

Isn't it dangerous to use these batts in a UPS designed with electronics to charge Lead-Acid?
@DIYbatteries3 жыл бұрын
As long as the voltage range stays with within the acceptable levels for li-ion, it is safe. Using a quality BMS is a must if using them long term without constant monitoring.

I'm a bit of a noob, but if you had some kind of video such as "How to replace your lead acid UPS batteries with LiFePo for idiots", I would love it :D I'm looking to buy a multimeter and test my UPSs out (have two of CyberPower CP1000PFCLCD). I suppose I'd have to buy something that would autobalance them and of course do the math on what combo would work (putting them into series & then maybe parallel to max out capacity, if there's room inside).

So less than 50% of the name plate at 3.4 volts per cell you may gain a little going to 3.6

You must top balance these. Also if you want to try one of my packs you may like them better. I would not use that pack.

Also stay above 3v/cell and do not go above 3.6v/c
