I did tech support in this time period; the main complaint about this guy wasn't so much spying, it was more that he used up too much ram and sometimes caused software malfunctions with cable modem connections. Of course, if you were unfortunate enough to be stuck with a 3com sharkfin modem, you were screwed from the getgo. Once those things go down, you can never get them running again.
