Just to add to my previous comment. I cant stress enough how much doing a heavy lifting routine has made my body feel. I am a 60 year old competitive age group runner and feel so much stronger and less injuries since I started lifting heavy. Hammies, glutes, calves and core all get the treatment.
@TimGrose23 күн бұрын
How long have you been running ? Think part of my “problem” is still feel like a 20-30 something in my head when in hindsight I could get away with so much more than now although never did much mileage then as was an 800/1500 runner.

Hi Tim, I had long term achillies issues for 12 months, I still ran but had to manage the injury, then I saw my Podiatrist who is a 28 min 10km guy. He told me to lift heavy with the calf raises eg 4-6 reps but had to be heavy weights and I had improvement straight away. I used a standing up calf raise machine at the gym. The results have been amazing, I do once a week gym and no more achillies issues.

Thanks! One of those sessions wasn't too bothered what the actual paces but more the fact it felt considerably faster/harder than an easy plod. Plus nice place to run and even a bit of sun. Be interesting what you make of the ZF6.

Same to you! Am not as precise as some in my goal pace but feel when do err a 10 mile race maybe as well try at 10 mile effort and this was meant to be about that effort but undoubtedly I tried a little harder due to lack of relative fitness. Sure you would not do a 10K trail race at 100K average pace!

Vila Real de Santo Antonio is where the pro’s go 😀 Went on the track tours camp there a few years ago led by AW’s Steve Smythe. The athletics track has mega facilities, and the forest on the coast has amazing trails.
@TimGrose22 күн бұрын
Know Steve quite well! Few years ago I hired a bike one trip and cycled to Vila Real and got train back to Olhao where the ferry comes into from Armona Island. I did have a quick look at the impressive athletics stadium there. Think Matt Fox of Sweat Elite has held a training camp here too.

Well done 'emerging from a bush'.😂 And good job on getting the Session done too. Have been knocked out by some kind of virus as well for a few days now. Very frustrating but I guess might be better to get this early January, than when in the middle of my upcoming Marathon Block.
@TimGrose23 күн бұрын
@@robin29991 thought you might appreciate that - on super view though on my GoPro the bush looked tiny! Saw you were heading out yesterday for a run. How was it? This virus had me off running over 2 weeks and about 2 weeks later now still not feeling quite right.

Good to see you doing a session again. I’m the same with the Achilles; kind of managing it. Stopping running totally makes it worse 🧐
@TimGrose23 күн бұрын
I thought having manflu for 2.5 weeks would cure it but although improved just still there in background. Don’t think it is actually my Achilles more the bursa to side get inflamed. Some shoes are better than others but I do find if do much more than about 45 mins then start to struggle regardless of pace. Oddly a night’s rest improves a lot. Try to do as much stretches and massage gun as can. Sitting down for ages is often then hard to take the first step again. I had similar in 2017-8 and largely eliminated all shoes that rubbed and took shoes off completely when could. It was good again thereafter until late May. Annoying isn’t it…
@sagsdothedu23 күн бұрын
@ yup extremely annoying! I’m returning to the track next week🙃. See how that affects the Achilles. Best ease into it - which can be difficult once you’re into the session!
@TimGrose22 күн бұрын
@ the “in it” is usually ok as it is the warm up and even worse the cool down that makes me sometimes wonder what am doing to myself. Next day (or maybe day after) back to it. Just managed 10 miles for first time in a while. Now worried about getting up after sitting down LOL.

Nice to see you back doing sessions. Solid effort there. Is 15 degrees normal for the time of year? It was minus 4 up here today and we had a few walk breaks to skirt round ice on the roads.
@TimGrose22 күн бұрын
If anything a bit down. Seems to be rising to 17-19 next few days. Part of the "problem" is that I am sometimes doing 5 hour trips just to get an hour run in so have to take a few layers for pre and post that I can still carry easily when running. It gets a bit nippy on the boat for instance! Other times of year here can be the opposite problem of heading out in just a singlet and feeling thirsty quite quickly! Think am still feeling a bit "odd" after the manflu so feel am having to wear more. I would not normally feel need to wear arm warmers when 15 deg, dry and sunny and not too windy. Maybe getting older! Session I was pleased with. Not too bothered about paces on this and I was only meant to be doing one hour effort anyway. As it is probably went a bit faster.
