Haha, just revisited this 4 years later (and 6 years after publishing) - still a good explanation! But makes it also funnily obvious how much more comfortable you are in front of the camera now and how much you’ve grown as a “public” speaker. Congrats!

Just found these vids. Just getting back to running. Did a terrible 22km on Sunday. Found the vid about warm up, did that before a 4km run, the next day. Really opened me up, and found that I was powering home. Going to do these exercises. I’m 57 and don’t run like I used to, but I’m a lot wiser now… running lots of Kms won’t do the job anymore.

Thank you so much for sharing. It is so helpful for a beginner like me who knows very little about running. By the way, your to-the-point and no-nonsense video style is clean, clear and concise. Well done!

I’ve just caught up with this great video, thanks Ben for such clear explanations. I had a real light bulb moment on the high knees drill when you suggested concentrating on driving the foot down rather than knee drive on the way up. I used that as a cue on my 11 mile run tonight and I could feel the glutes etc engaging, and pushing me forward more and my core seemed more engaged too, felt great!! I’ll be building these drills into my running a couple of times a week.

2.36 marathon!! I was surprised though in the single leg lunges he was shaking a bit. I thought to do that sort of time u would have to be super stable. I'm just starting running and I want to build a runners body with exercises and drills as pounding pavement before being strong feels like a good way to get an injury. Also I try to do too much too soon so maybe just start a beginner program and stick to it and don't rush as axillary stuff maybe not as critical as actual running. Though what's ur goal? If an agile body ur goal maybe running not the way to go. But but then I said I want to do fast 5k!! Going nutz.

So many coaches have you do these drills but don’t tell you why you’re doing them, which is key. It’s important to understand something to get full benefit from it. Also butt kickers and quick feet.

They'd make a good warm on for some of your easy runs. Maybe don't go straight into these, but after some gentle leg swings and a few minutes of very easy running. Then you'll be good to go!
