Running electrical to an Intex pool.

In this video I show how I was able to set up an underground extension cord using an existing outlet on the side of our house in order create a new electrical outlet closer to our above ground Intex pool. This is not a permanent solution, but just a way for me to not have to constantly remove the extension cord on the lawn.

Love your videos man. Timing is great, since I just ordered a 12x30 pool myself.

I would suggest using an angled plug though instead of the one he used. Just my two cents

Why didn't you just connect the wires to the electrical box? Seems odd to wire to an extension cord connector instead of going straight to the box.

@@frugalguy1 Fair point…I just didn’t want the underground wire to be permanent and wanted to be able to unplug the wire if I wanted to.

? Could you have also made the outlet by the pool part of the circuit of the outlet on the side of the house? Sorry for being inarticulate but I’ve been planning to do this. I want to replace my exterior outlet due to age and it’s 15A on a 20A circuit. At the same time I want to “pigtail,” maybe wrong term, but extend the circuit from the bottom of that outlet out to pool pump where I’d have a second outlet for the pump on a post like you’ve done. I’m using the 12/2 B wire rated for burial at 6 inches where I live. Really nice video btw!

You’re correct. You could come off the back of that outlet and just run the new wire underground more permanently. I wanted the ability to remove the wire later but what you’re thinking of doing would work. Just bury it deep enough or run it in conduit of it’s more permanent.

What kind of extension cord were you using before, and did you ever have any issues with it? I assume you didn’t run the pump when the pool was in use?

A heavy duty 12/3 outdoor extension cord. And with the extension cord I did try to only have the pump running when the pool was not in use.

how high above grade should the outlet be?

what size and kind of wire did you use, not sure what to use for outdoors. My setup will be exactly like yours, thanks.

I used direct burial rated 14-2 wire that has a hot, neutral, and ground wire in it. Though if you ever planned on running a much stronger pump for a larger pool you may want to consider running 12-2 instead.

Wait, why didnt you run the conduit piping all the way to the outlet? Are the wires ok if they get soaked in water while buried in dirt?
@Type5Reviews

The electrical wire I used was rated for direct burial. It just needs to be buried deep enough to not accidentally get cut.

Whats happens if two gfci are on same line?
@Type5Reviews
@Type5Reviews Жыл бұрын
You just don’t need two gfci’s on the same circuit. Normally a gfci is placed at the beginning of a circuit and then protects all of the other outlets daisy chained from it. Putting a 2nd one “downstream” doesn’t necessarily cause issues, but if one trips both could trip then your running around chasing multiple gfci’s to reset.

@Type 5 Reviews lmao, I'm thinking of doing the same shit. Right now I'm being defiant as fuck with my city for not obtaining permits for our pool which we've had up now for 4 years and now they wanna say something.

Even if it’s not. What’s the problem with doing this? I don’t see any danger in it. It’s not complicated. It’s just an extension cord that can be buried.
