Running into a cactus during Spring Training BP at Salt River Fields

It was a small cactus, but it hurt like hell, and while I was pulling the needles out of my shoes and socks, I chased down a home run ball . . . barefoot.
Yup, just another day at Spring Training, this time at Salt River Fields in Scottsdale, Arizona. I learned the secret spots to snag baseballs behind the practice fields, had a conversation with Ian Desmond, dropped by an amateur tryout, got autographs from two superstar players, saw Shohei Ohtani again, and snagged TWO home run balls during the actual game.

It really sucked. Several of the cactus needles went through my sneaker, through my sock, and were still sticking directly into the top of my right foot when I took off the shoe and sock.

Ow, that couldn't have been fun. Also, does it hurt you a little bit every time a ball cracks off the pavement? It does for me, at least. At my local minor league team the stadium is surrounded by streets, and often a foul will bounce out and leave a terrible gouge in the hide.
