Yikes. Seems you commmited the worst sin of this game. Letting tools run out. Basically whats happening right now is that EVERYONES efficiency has just gone to the toilet, including the people who mine the iron AND the tool makers. This creates a vicious cycle from which it is incredibly hard to get out of, without buying tools from traders. This works as an excellent lesson to everyone. No matter what you do, even if you need to starve your people or live in poverty, never, EVER let your people run out of tools.
