Carey Loftin (stunt driver for Steve McQueen in Bullitt) was the stunt coordinator on this movie. He was like a father and was driving mentor to Cliff Cudney, my late husband, who was the limo stunt driver in this chase scene. Greg Elam was Gregory Hines' stunt driver in this sequence, as well as all the other stunt doubling for Hines in this movie. Those were fun times. It was also a blast to be in Chicago at Christmastime when the Bears were in the Super Bowl

I always found these old school 80/90s car chases more exciting and adrenaline pumping than Fast and Furious and Need for Speed. Real cars that could take abuse, not just fancy sports cars
@obeseperson2 жыл бұрын
The fancy sports cars are real cars too dude, some of them are just a bit more fragile than others. It’s a tradeoff you take for more speed. Don’t just write off an entire genre, why not enjoy these old chases AND some of the new chases?
@GuineaPigEveryday2 жыл бұрын
Action thrillers or action in general just kept ramping up from the 70s into 80s and 90s and then in the 2000s onwards has slowly become shit again. Mad Max Fury Road was great but beyond that i think its just James Bond and Mission Impossible that manage to recapture the well-choreographed and well-shot car chases. Fast & Furious is for general movie-goers, any fans of action know there’s so much better out there than CGI bland car mashing

Wow!!! Carey Loftin. Famous Hollywood stunt driver. He drove the Peterbilt truck in “Duel” 1971! Thats awesome! Great scene with the CTA L train. I grew up riding those old green and white L trains. They were Chicago legends. Seen in almost every movie made here! Many of these train cars live on in museums and in CTAs historic collection. The Lasalle Van Buren stop in downtown Chicago was also the station used in the final scenes of “Planes Trains and Automobiles” when Steve Martin and John Candy part ways. I saw that scene being filmed in the summer of 1987!

Sick of people throwing the term ‘bomb’ around, and it certainly doesn’t apply to this movie. This film grossed over $40 million, doubled its budget, had 2 hit songs all over the radio (Sweet Freedom and Man Size Love) and a sequel was in the works. Plus you couldn’t get away from it on cable for about a decade. A blockbuster? No. But a lot of people love this movie and still quote lines from it today.

But that off ramp is 2 blooks away from the convention center. Back then the front was open to the outside, it's now Its all inside with a roof but it's more of less the same. The hotels have been majorly upgraded. Super nice area now. Every year I go and I can feel Gregory there.

Originally the fugitive 1993 was going to have a similar chase at the climax where Tommy Lee Jones is driving a car chasing Harrison Ford on a subway train on the elevated tracks which would’ve been a homage to this film and the French connection. This chase was basically a homage to the French connection and to live and die in LA because of the late Billy Friedkin thinking up a good chase and Peter hyams really topped the French connection car chase of a car chasing an elevated train in Brooklyn, New York to two cars on the Chicago elevated train tracks.

In the movie Octopussy, Bond is going down train tracks in a car. General Orlov sees him and says, "follow that car!" Now you have two cars going down the train tracks. When Billy Crystal says that line in this movie, he sounds just like the general. Even though the cars don't go onto the tracks until later in the chase, I think Billy was referencing Octopussy.
