First time listener....great video and just what I needed to hear on the Sunday before my TUM102. Catch you on the trails!

Great to hear, thanks Matt. I definitely go through something of a cycle of euphoria and despair during taper, but if you've done the training, you'll be absolutely fine!

The gods have been listening….your comments on having a plan and a plan B…minutes later an email to say the Eastern Okataina trail is closed. ❤

Thanks Kunal. Unfortunately not the best day on the trails for me: I went out too hard and blew my quads out.

Another helpful video. Tarawera will be my 1st 100km and I haven’t thought about blisters. What tape strips brand do you use?
@WestieRunner2 жыл бұрын
I have several different options available: I cut some strips from a roll of k-tape, also have a couple of Compeed blister plasters, and in one of my drop bags I'll have a roll of strapping tape. That's a bit of an overkill really, but blisters are no fun at all when you're still got 40 or 50k to run!

Thanks for all your videos. I am interested in where or how you got or calculated the "Gnarl factors" in your spreadsheet. It looks like they are quite accurate for you, but would they be suitable for most runners ? Thanks PS I have my own spreadsheet I made, and it's calculations are fairly similar. I have inputed goal paces between each aidstation.
@WestieRunner2 жыл бұрын
The gnarl factor is the ratio of actual time taken to predicted time taking distance and elevation gain into account, as calculated from my two attempts at the 102k in 2018 and 2020. I do not know how applicable these will be to other runners, but my gues is that it is going to be reasonably applicable to most runners who are within say 11-14 hours finishing time.
