I'm a homeschool mom for 8 years now. My daughter is 14. We had a project back in 2016 for geology and made our own gold concentrate bowl to learn about density. We ended up with 2 grams of gold from one 5 gallon bucket taken from the railroad area close to our home. (KZbin gives us so much science fun.) But now we are addicted to finding gold and gems here in Shasta county. And now we will be joining a club. We have been watching your show and jeffs show for a while. We pretty much handmake all our prospecting equipment that we see everyone using. Very awesome to know that your a highschool teacher! We learn so much from you and Jeff. Thank you so much. 🐸

Funny that you mentioned the complaints...I've actually always liked your videos simply because they focus on prospecting, the getting out, the processes and effort involved in capturing gold...not just showing the end result. Great vid(s), keep it up!

I am from a dryish part of Australia. I dream of a river with water in it. I get my wash with a bent screw driver and my hands. Seeing videos like this are quite interesting. Just to see a different perspective on prospecting. Loved seeing the vintage train engines and land slide. I can relate to your hard work. I sleep in my car onsite. We are not allowed to use a sluice where I live plus there is no water. Can't use a dry blower either. I pan all my wash in a tub with water I carry in. I envy you sooooo much. Personally, I couldn't give a rat's arse as to how much gold you get. I love seeing your techniques. I watch as many different people as I can and pick up tips along the way. One thing that draws m,e back here is your vids , like one other mat manufacturers, you are genuine and real. No fake shit. If you have a bad day, you show it. Some of the vids drag on a bit but you don't see me posting any so keep it up.

I remember when my dad helped build the dam, and I was told that when the rock at the face was levelled for the wall and left without a word of a lie a quartz vein with gold being exposed, and they just poured cement straight over and finished building the dam and the reef was never seen again... I wonder if its where your source of gold is coming from, nice clean out.. Regards

The most common way to reduce wind noise is with an external lav microphone with a wind shield. The shield is commonly a close foam or fur like covering of the mic head.

Hi Dan great video as usual. I have a solution for your mic and the wind noise either a fake mustache or a small piece of T-shirt over the mic will help deflect the wind and reduce noise. Seen it on youtube. Keep up the good work.

If you haven't figured out the wind in the mic thing yet?,. In a pinch we will take any kind of soft foam, such as the foam in a seat cushion, "Yes my boat now has a couple holes in otherwise perfect seats" In case anyone was wondering. just take a small chunk of that foam and carve it out with a razor blade so that it slides tightly over the mic and covers it all the way around! Works like a charm,.. Option 2,. order a wind sock and don't let the cameraman forget it back at the studio!!

that's when you run a couple hours and then check your tailings at the end of your sluice to see if there's any gold being blown out the back, and if so you turn your water down a bit. Anyone ever thought of purposely trying to stack a section of rocks on end to make a place that will collect gold for you when the waters rise again? That way the next year you could come right back to that section and hopefully have it loaded with gold?

+Trav Bach I made my own highbanker. There are a lot of good ones out there. I like what Greywolf produces. D'arcy Cooper make great highbankers tho I'm not sure if he is currently making them. I have seen the G1 in operation and am very impressed. Although I like a better hopper system.

This is my first year gold prospecting and I just bought a claim and will be purchasing a highbanker in the next week or so. Here’s my issue, how do I deal with the spent water and tailings as my claim is on the side of a steep mountain? I’ll have my highbanker set up on the road and I don’t want to have the water run out the sluice and down the mountain side and there isn’t room to dig a hole to contain the sediment. I can put a bin at the end of the sluice and use most of the tailings for road repair but the water needs to go somewhere safe the won’t wash away the road or go back into the stream even though it isn’t a fish bearing stream.
@Danhurd
@Danhurd 6 жыл бұрын
In this situation I would try recirculating water through a very large bin. I like the solid plastic fruit bins that they use in orchards. You can get them from Growers Direct.
@martyschmidt2725
@martyschmidt2725 6 жыл бұрын
Dan Hurd, dang I don’t know why I didn’t think of that. I was planning to build a cheap recirculating system for my sluice at home but I’ll definitely make something for the highbanker on my claim and I don’t have to be 10 meters away from the stream with a recirculating system. I’ll check out the bin from Growers like you suggested! Keep up the great videos and learning material and thanks for the response 😊

Did you misspeak? "About a gram of gold." Alone for two days, 9 hours hard labor, $1000 in equipment, say 5 gallons of gasoline on the pump, transport to the site and back, minimalist lodging and more sun exposure than healthy for a redhead...for about $38 worth of metal that will get stashed not used. That about it? With THE fever like that you need to wear a sombrero and have a good paying job. Ya gotta love that buttery gold shinning back at you.

Boy you sure like running your sluice ( High Banker ) hard. I'd be afraid of loosing the finer gold with the water running that hard. I like to run a sluice so I can just see the water bunching ( causing a hump ) over the riffles. Just hard enough that the material is boiling behind the riffles but not much harder. I really think more of the Fines stay on the mat that way. When your board some day amuse me and give it a try ?
