One of my rules, which is similar to that last one, is don't assume you know everything about another runner. For example, if you see someone running slower than you, don't tell them to "pick it up!" because you have no idea what kind of training they're doing or what their speeds are. Also, don't assume that what works for you will work for someone else. As a person with some chronic illnesses, certain fuels or even gear doesn't work for me the way it would for someone else and its really frustrating to hear those suggestions when I don't ask!

My biggest pet peeve is when I'm running on a trail and there is a person with unleashed dogs. Leash laws exist for a reason and I have almost been bit a few times out on my long runs
@Kelly_Ben2 жыл бұрын
Guilty. I've had German Shepherds who needed loads more mental and physical exercise than what I'd give on leash. However, they've both been well trained and completely non aggressive. Running off leash on trails is one of the biggest joys of my (and their) lives, and I'll continue to do so with all my dogs, making sure first that they're not a danger to others. I usually put a cheerful bandana on them to make them friendlier looking, and consider it breed public relations for other trail users to be able to interact with my "scary wolves " IF they choose to, so they can experience firsthand that dogs do not equal danger. Bad owners equal danger.

Run against traffic is one. I constantly see runners running with traffic on roads, which is very dangerous. Runners run against traffic because it's much easier for us to see cars oncoming and get out of the way than it is to hear them behind us, especially with the rise of electric cars which don't make any noise at all.
@marktracey20882 жыл бұрын

I sort of agree but I make an exception for hills & bends. I don't want to be running into traffic approaching a blind bend or the brow of a steepish hill so I try & get on the side of the road where I'll give cars the longest time to see me. Road races on open roads also require you to run with the traffic in the UK, at least all the ones I've done.

@@miski1969 yes I have noticed this with road events running with the traffic, then the marshalls will shout at you to follow the highway code! Which says the opposite. I went for a run on a training track for the first time last week, and I realized pretty quickly that there are a bunch of rules. Some might be posted at the track entrance. For example. Reserve the inside track for relatively fast runners, walk on the outside track, and so on for intermediate speeds. There seem to be different rules about overtaking. Say I'm running at 4:30m/k and I'm approaching a slower runner (say 5m/k--still running) on the inside track. Some say it's up to the other runner to switch tracks. Some say I should overtake on the right (assuming we're going anti-clockwise). Has the Running Channel done a segment on track etiquette to settle these questions?

I prefer using my aftershokz headphones. I don't always listen to music. I usually listen to podcasts.

An excuse me or even a cough to get attention, is a good idea when approaching pedestrians from behind.

If I’m running and see another runner I usually give a head nod (mainly if other runners are few and far between)

Great you treat everyone else to your rubbish music…find different headphones that don’t make you hot…

I can't get on with listening to music while running but this is good because i sing along getting the words wrong with impunity, would be a scary prospect for an old lady seeing me running towards her on a night run singing waiting for an hammer to fall
