The art of Port de Bras involves much more than simply lifting and lowering the arms. It requires the dancer to engage their entire upper body, including their back, shoulders, wrists, and fingers, to achieve a fluid and graceful arm movement. A well-executed Port de Bras can enhance the beauty and grace of a dancer's movements, as well as convey emotion and expression to the audience.
As a ballet teacher, it is essential to teach your students the proper technique for Port de Bras. This involves understanding the correct positioning of the arms, as well as how to use the muscles in the upper body to achieve a fluid and graceful movement. With the right guidance and practice, your students can master Port de Bras and enhance the beauty and grace of their ballet performances.
In this video, I will guide you through the proper techniques and tips for mastering port de bras, an essential component of any ballet performance.

I would pay good money for self-paced online classes, taught by this man. I know you guys do live coaching online… but I don’t qualify for that. I would like to go back to basics and begin again as an adult student and learn things the right way. Please consider creating some sort of course for adult learners in beginning ballet. Please!

Its so true! Focus on the motion first rather than "Emotions". Simplicity is paramount at the beginning.

So good, Mr. Du, that you teach Vaganova's Port de Bras. There is a tendency nowadays, I think, to neglect the upper body work. Thank you!

Thanks! I’m never quite sure if I should take a breath “little dip” before cambre back. I see it both ways. I guess the Vagonava way says no.

Please, the word is allongé ("a" with a short sound not a long sound. It is the way the letter "a" is pronounced in French.

@@parishadnz.6048 and neither am I, but I have learned how to say allongé not ellangé (there actually is no such word in French). We must pass our vocabulary on correctly. Pronunciation is part of that. Many teachers mispronounce the word therefore perpetuating incorrect pronunciation.

@@vrsfanatic ..for the sake of god stop this nonsense please..I am so curious to know how you would pronunce the italian musical words such as 'adagio', allegro' or 'crescendo'!!!..is your 'R' properly pronounced for example?? What about 'A'??I am sure not! Will be the same for all the not italian dance teachers Anybody who is a bit familiar with ballet vocabs he or she undestands pretty well what one is referring to, even with a not exact accent..so, even if he would say 'ellonge', 'illonge' or' longe', one would understand what he is talking about...what matters is how to do properly the specific movement, and he is working hard for this goal. Dont' worry about ballet glossary: it's well documented and is there to be reffered to by the students along their carrier; plus these are not going to study with one specific teacher only in their whole path, but with numerous teachers instead. I repeat..he is not french and he is not supposed to force his brain pretending something so different...

@@parishadnz.6048 I am fluent in Italian and therefore I pronoun musical terminology correctly. I do not wish to be argumentative, but I guess I am a teacher who learns from my mistakes and moves forward so I pass correct terminology and knowledge of Vaganova schooling on to my students. I will try not to disturb you again however there are many teachers who mispronounce terminology and what is wrong with learning how to pronounce a balletic term correctly.
