Hi guys putting the bracket on the bullbar not a problem, however attaching the control box to the bracket. It has drilled threaded holes on the back plate but no screws to attach. Pls advise

Your vehicle has a Smart Alternator and a sensor on the negative terminal for determining how hard it should work. You have connected your winch direct to your negative terminal. This will mean that your Smart Alternator will not be able to compensate for increased battery load while winching and you will flatten your battery, even if your vehicle is running. You can lengthen your ground terminal with a copper bar to provide an earth location outside of the sensor.

Hi Dan, very good point and I want to learn more on the smart alternators as I am about to do the same winch install on my 2021 NP300. Would't the battery drain by the winch be picked up by the smart alternator and therefore compensated?

@@iDEMONiDEVIL The current sensor on the negative terminal is what tells the alternator to “work harder”. As long as all the loads are on the outside of this terminal, they will be detected and the alternator will provide more charge to the battery. If there is a load on the inside of this terminal, it will not be detected and the alternator will plod along, providing enough charge to condition the battery and it will eventually make up the shortfall. Having battery drain that isn’t detected and compensated by the smart alternator would be similar to running the winch without the engine running.

Cool video super clear instructions the runva winch looks sick. Going to be annoying if ever need to remove that grill in the future though with the cables running through the grill. Should of done it underneath it. Get ya self a number plate flip bracket, to solve the issue of your number plate being in the way, just flip it up when ever ur winching 😀

Had this winch installed a few days ago, but they didn’t install the isolator switch (installer said “you don’t need it”). So obviously this switch allows you to power the winch only when you want but my question is - what is the purpose of doing this and is it really needed or not? Great video mate, cheers.

I want to hide the control box inside the bull bar (Opposite Lock). My 11XP premium was installed years ago and the mounting bracket to attach the box onto the winch is long gone, I just have the V bracket on top of the bar. What does that bracket look like, and where does it attach to the winch? I can't find it on the Runva website to buy.

Thanks for the wireless remote instructions! Runva seems to be a bit skimpy on included instructions. Just a comment regarding the wiring. Have you cable tied any of it? You mentioned cables rubbing through but didn't mention securing it from moving. A lot of auto electricians I have talked to recommended every 20-30cm or less securing it. I also watched a video recently on installation tips and split conduit is a cheap and easy way of protecting all the cables from running through.

Good video mate, looking at getting one of those Runva wireless winch remotes. Do you find theirs much lag/delay using that opposed to the wired hand piece?

Not at all, the wireless remote seems to actuate the winch as soon as i press the button.

I have been helping a co-worker install this winch. The solenoid ground wire gets hot and the winch clicks while releasing or spooling up the cable, the solenoid ground wire is connected to the winch ground point. The winch has the 35mm2 ground cable connected directly to the battery. The battery is a 810CCA. I checked all ground points and they're tight Resistance from winch ground point to neg battery post is about 0.3Ohms I cant figure out what is causing this issue

You are correct that you shouldn’t have an infused cable running though your car, especially in an impact/crumple zone like in a bumper or bull bar. The problem is that winches pull a lot of current. Even a 300A Maxi-fuse may blow under normal usage, and since a winch is an emergency device, it is usually subjected to abnormal use. The isolator switch serves the purpose of a fuse, but needs to be managed by a human. You need to have your winch isolated when not in use. Some people still install with fuses, some use remotely controlled solenoids and some people use Anderson Plugs. Runva, Carbon or Warn should manufacture and include a sealed unit fused, isolation switch capable of handling the current, but that would increase the cost of the package by at least another $100.

Hi mate, great video. I had my Runva 11XP winch fitted last Monday. I hadn’t used it at all. I crossed a creek wheel height. 30 mins after crossing the winch activated on its own and pulled against the fairlead to the point that it twisted my brand new TJM bull bar. Have you had any issues using this winch while going through water at all? Cheers

Best to isolate when not in use mate, I had problems with my winch with water. Wasn’t a runva but my wired controller only worked going out not in, and my wireless control worked fine. Also on the day it happened the winch would randomly spool my cable out, I let it dry out and didn’t happen again but that’s when I had the controller issues

It still blows me away that companies waste time and money offering a normal and premium version of the same winch with the main difference being water proofing. Why bother. There should not be a choice. It should just be the best most waterproof unit that the company can produce and for anyone tight arsed enough to buy the cheaper version just because they want a winch on the car then these are the people that deserve to get stuck and have the winch fail at the he most critical of times. A winch is not one of those items that should be determined purely by budget as it can be the difference between life or death.
