It’s been quite a while since he was a sambist and he also has other grappling and mma accolades.

So has Mikey’s team or ONE FC gotten back to you about a grappling match?

Which grappling sport would u reccomend a begginer to take to compete in combat sambo Judo, jiu jitsu or wrestling And where is the downfall in the grappling art u have choosen out of these 3 so i can fill in the gap by watching KZbin videos and rolling/randori in sambo rules

I would say Judo would be best. I’ve seen wrestlers compete in combat and they don’t have the ability to deal with the Judo throws that largely dominate Sambo but Judo certainly lacks in the leg attacks both standing and grounded. Wrestling is great if you can really master defense and throw punches into a double leg but if the opponent catches on they kinda lose their spark. They also have the same issues as Judoka have. BJJ is probably the worst for combat Sambo because their only real weapon that they would be better than a Sambist on is submissions and it’s easily possible that they never get the chance to show that skill set off. I am mainly a Judoka but I have focused on BJJ as of late because I lack great submissions. I definitely should get some double and single leg throws or learn to chain wrestle to Judo throws and off of Judo set ups.

Mikey is going to face a sambo champion, I guess they didn't choose you because you were rank #1 or another reason? Leaving all that aside, what is the victory condition for a sambista in a grapling match? Islam and Khabib are the only ones I've seen with good jiujitsu (or submission grappling for me is the same)

It partially might be because I didn’t place at the world championships and Khertek the Russian who won is in the 58kg category and can make 135 much easier without a water cut on a months notice. I think his path to victory is to work almost strictly on guard passing and leg lock defense. In rolling he needs to find some good BJJ black belts to pull guard and constantly attack him. If he can pass guard and maintain top control and wear Mikey down and go for submissions that he can chain together he could win. I will review his match at the recent world championships but the way he attempted to pass guard in that match worries me. If he does the same thing he will easily get triangled by Mikey. I think he needs to focus on body lock pressure passing because Mikey thrives on movement. A double under pass might be effective as well. Buggy choke defense is another secondary thing worth putting some time into.
