She did back in her early days, if fact she was in drag all the time, Rupaul was rarely seen out of drag, but everyone knows Rupaul, and not the other person out of drag Andre Charges. The older he got he does less and less drag, and for that reason he feel that he made his mark on sociality as a well known drag queen, so he wanted to open doors for other drag queens to make their mark, so that is why you don't see him in drag anymore, other then his show.

Just watched the 1993 interview. It really hit me when he said the pendulum has swung so far to the right in the 80s that it needed to come crashing back to the left in the 90s. Now unfortunately it’s gone back to the right in horrible xenophobic trans phobic and violent. We need to keep that pendulum moving forward toward progress.

It's really ironic, but am I alone in thinking most talk show hosts, etc. almost find it easier to interview "The Monster" rather than his stripped down, still-colorful-just-not-as-sparkly incarnation? Granted, he's now just as recognizable out of drag as he is in it, but we all came to know and love RuPaul as this towering, glittering almost cartoonish persona who made certain topics a bit easier for the mainstream to stomach because he did so with a wink and a lipsticked smile. You couldn't help but fall in love with her and I think that was RuPaul's greatest gift.

This was a great segment right up until they made poor Kyle come out in drag. He was clearly uncomfortable and they used him as a gag. I thought that was offensive to him and to the drag community. Then, to end the segment with YMCA was so cliche that it was painful and ruined the segment for me.

The Arsenio reboot failed because they made it way too modern and corporate looking. Looks like the set of Dr. Phil. Arsenio’s fashion, flair, and fun set is what encapsulated so much of the 90s. Imagine how fun it would have been to see a grandiose 90s inspired set, with minor changes to freshen it up for modern audiences? Shame because I really like Arsenio.

Rupaul sat there and told that bold faced lie!!! Black and gay struggles are not the same no matter how you try to make them bedfellows. If you don’t posses or show any stereotypical traits, signs, or tell people you are gay you don’t have to face discrimination. On the other hand when you are black when you walk through the door everyone knows you are black and when black you don’t have the luxury to lead with anything else. You will always be seen as black and have to take whatever comes with it. By no means am I condoning or encouraging discrimination but people need to know the difference before co-signing on a lie from someone that uses his own community perpetuating stereotypes in the form of caricatures when there’s a dollar involved but really only concerns himself with white gay people because it’s his major fan base.
@sunmarsh4 жыл бұрын
You're 100% right. I think that RuPaul says these things because it's something that worked for him. He's talked before about how clothes change the way people treat you. His entire livelihood has been about making people like him by changing the way he looks. And so he's internalized that and I think he truly believes that if he has the power to 'move up in the world' by changing his thinking and actions, so can everyone else. But that's the exception and not the rule. And what a price to pay.

It was so great to see Arsenio show in the audience finally in 2014. I was not there to sing as all the black new stars back in the day was on this show and those wanting to. Katt Williams was the first star. I called my friend Brenda to see if she wanted to go when I was putting number of tickets. The little boy over on the right side with the band and handsome guitar player. That skirt I knew I was about to be uncomfortable but Brenda friend had called to say she was on the way. Brenda must have seen me looking in my suitcase again when she hsdcalreadycsaid Lisa pull that skirt up! I walked in the back the last time on my way for another change she said guhl lets,go. I started laughing. But I pulled and snatched all night sitting down it was up even more. Laws have mercy.
