Ah, Duran Duran. My alphas to omegas. A love affair for almost 45 years (yikes). If I could get my hands on a time machine, first stop would be the Rum Runner Club circa '80/81 then on to The Blitz Club. With the know-how of today's make-up, Steve Strange would worship me! I still have my pirate shirt from then.
@ladyjennyanytime5195Ай бұрын
heyyy hunny bun. im so so jealous that you did the whole pirate look thing. i was too young to wear it then, but i so did it a few years ago when i recreated a punk Westwood-esque highland look in drag. Its the one thing i disagree with Wilma on is that the looks on Lill and the other she said weren't new romantic really were, its just that they fell into that post punk Blitz/Billys crowd look BEFORE the media came up with New Romantoc as a name, before that it was known as Blitz kids look. T he funniest thing about these looks is that most of them were theatrical/film costumes from when Fox theatricals closed down in covent garden, all the fashion students went to the closing down sale there and bought all those old military and period costumes and adapted them on themselves to be original clubwear looks. Also the LEWKS during that time moved really quickly, so you had the Westwood pirate look(i think /Rifat Ozbeck did pirates first at his end of term collection before Westwood) Dya remember Spandau did the whole Scotish Gillie/Highland look which was new romantic, Adam did the pirate, the highway man and the Hussar looks, Duranies started out with the pie crust collar blousey shirt sand make up but quickly morphed into the playboy Anthony Price suits. It was such a short period of time new romanticism, blink and you missed it. Boy George and Pete Burns were punks and post punk, but ALL of them inspired by Bowie, which He then tapped back into the zeitgeist at Blitz for his Ashes to Ashes. They were all cultural magpies. Then there was the whole ragamuffin dreads look that George, Haysi Fantaysie (God they were shite! lol ) and Marilyn did and Annabelle Liun from Bow wow wow. T he list goes on and on and on. But it was definitely a brief period that changed really quickly. Very disposable fashion and music at the time, constantly moving on to the next big thing. Great creative period though in fashion and music. Lets find someone to build that time machine Lolly eh? I'd definitely hitch a ride with you hun. xoxo

Kia Ora, Jane! I'm so glad you like my parure! What had happened was, I ordered that stunning necklace but it arrived damaged. Well, actually the chain was fused together so they sent a replacement and I thought I would make earrings and finger rings with the damaged original. Crafty is as crafty does and taa daa, a parure is born! LOL xox

Hey ladies, fab review as always, gave me some giggles. I agree with most of what you said about the tasks and the runways, apart from the earlier ones with hats(See my essay on Lolly's post. I aint writing it again lol ) Because your a week or so behind i have to keep reminding myself of what happened and with whom cuz theres so many franchises now, i cant keep track of who's where and what I've already watched. Im thoroughly enjoying this UK cast though, sad at who got the boot last week cuz she's such a great character, i thought if ever there was a time for a double shantay , THAT was it! I couldn't call it tbh with you. Was sad to see Dita go, but she just didn't seem to show her full potential or maybe just cuz the others were more hungry and ambitious and so so strong. they're really having to nit-pick with them at this stage already. they're just so terrific! Did you have a good Halloween luvvy? Is it Thanksgivng next for you guys? We had Guy Fawkes/Bonfire night last week and the fecking fireworks are still going off!! Grrrrrrrrrrr! Look forward to seeing you Sunday dolly. MWAH! MWAH! Lady J XOXO

Why does everyone say Marmalahd? She says it's Marmalayed and it's her name. 😳 I suppose it's because of Lady Marmalade (and sadly most people are probably thinking of the version by Christina Aguilera, etc.).
@TheWilmaFingerdooReviewАй бұрын
Well, I can't speak for everyone else, but I call her Marmalahd BECAUSE of LaBelle's Lady Marmalade. I was trying to be ironically funny. I have no idea why everyone else is doing it. xox

@@TheWilmaFingerdooReview Sorry if that came across more angry or hostile than I intended. I think I may just be a little touchy about people being called by their right names because I have aways hated the name on my birth certificate and, while most people have started calling me by my preferred name there are others who insist on calling me the name I hate. I always enjoy your videos and I like you and Wilhelmina a lot. I actually came to delete this and saw you had already replied. Sorry, again! ❤

I'm old enough to remember the original. In school it was a scandal as kids shared what some of those lyrics meant. It was a small rural town....think 1950's mindset.

I, for one, did not understand at all what the runway theme was about. So far, this season is a bit of a yawn for me. That being said, you two make my day.

Wilma was having no nonsense this week! I also watched the episode completely puzzled by the runway and wondering where the Queens sourced their references for the "New Romantic" category. As a movement it was so much more than pirate fancy dress and ruffles which was what the majority of the queen's seemed to focus on. I understand that they will naturally interpret the given theme in their own way but very few of them understood the essence of the assignment at all. The Leigh Bowery inspiration was misplaced and it's become pretty routine for the girls to do a "club kid" look on any given runway these days. I guess that other fashion themes like 50's rockabilly , 60's mods, 70's glam rock, punk etc must be more widely recognised and understood than The New Romantics were? Still a great group of queens though and a very entertaining season so far.
@TheWilmaFingerdooReviewАй бұрын
Too true, Mr Matchoo! I won't deny that that pirate/Napoleon influence wasn't around but it was definitely more of a British thing and was more of a precursor to what was ultimately known as New Romantic. Hell, there was even a band called The New Romantics and there wasn't a pirate among them! LOL xox

@TheWilmaFingerdooReview Not at all but, that is really funny. One or both of you said perkalese ~ ish and it sounded like, Hercules. Well, that made me think of "The Nutty Professor II" in the kitchen with the twins - Herkalese! Herkalese!the Please dismiss whatever I've misremembered, mistaken and misspelled but, I am more than confident you'll know exactly what I'm talking about and referencing. Also, please dismiss that comment, it must've sounded crazy af. Gotta have the fun somehow, y'know.😜 What I imagined I was saying is that you both look smashing and are like a breath of fresh Canadian 🇨🇦 chilled air from my Northern Chill Queens in Canada 🇨🇦 🌬. . . eh. I know you never say that but, I'm curious about the punctuation. Is it a question, statement or like an all purpose word? One more question, does Frig Off mean to be the polite version of F□□k Off? Thank You! Lastly, you both really do look great (quite fetching, really) and have been since your triumphant return with your illegitimate drag daughter in tow being a brilliant idea. Looks like you're exercising which means your health is getting better which is wonderful because the glow-up is real. I love all the colors and appreciate the skills. You two are very funny together, making a good pair and extremely fortunate to have such a friend in each other. Thanks, again, for so much hard work to entertain me and all the others, too. BIG KISS💋. . .CHEERS!

@@xanderjames6510 LOL no worries. I totally get the reference but don't remember us saying anything to inspire that iconic moment from the Nutty Professor, but I'll take it! xox Frig off is a Canadian thing. More so on the East Coast than the West, for sure, but yes, it's a more polite way of saying F Off. LOL. As for the Glow Up, Thanks for noticing. I'm losing weight because I've changed how and when I eat due to developing type 2 diabetes. If I can get my weight down and keep it off, my Dr thinks my Diabetes will reverse.
