I had all Ruperts albums through the 80s. It was like no other artist had his spectrum of sound. Yes, i really loved him and still do. True story, i worked for a large record company in the 80s and got to meet a great band who Rupert greatly influenced and he produced their albums, The Fixx. It was lovely and i feel lucky but truthfully, i would really have loved to meet Rupert. That would of been surreal.

@Cathode Roy Gosh you have met some fascinating artists in your life. You have met Todd many times? Are you in the music industry or a music journalist maybe? Yes, what would we say to Rupert if we had met him? His legacy puts him up into the highest echelons and his music is still, i feel, uniquely brilliant. I figure you have a pretty good idea what you would say to him having met Todd on many occasions. Todd is such an icon of the music industry and beyond and been around for so long. Brian Eno is another who has produced many landmark albums with great bands. I went through the late 70s/early 80s loving the new bands from the UK and the US as well as solo artists like Bowie and Reed with their brilliant 70s albums and Eno and Iggy. I remember Suzanne Vega saying that if she ever felt she needed something to lift her performance, she would listen to Lou Reed. Milla is hurting a lot as Ukraine suffers terribly. Yes Kate Bush would be special as would Robin Williams too. I sometimes think of his movie World's Greatest Dad and how its similar in ways to how we all lost his extraordinary talent. I did get to shake hands and have a few words with Emmylou Harris and her daughter who joined her on tour, which was lovely. It was around 83 and she did look incredible and she still does now. I didnt get the close contacts that you have experienced. Didnt mean to go on, i wanted to make sure to touch on those stars you've met. That really is something.

@Cathode Roy When you touched on one's age in perspective to music, you are bang on. There's no substitute for age when measuring experience with albums and concerts. Ive been asked what was the greatest show ive seen and i have to go with the 1978 Heroes/Isolar a.k.a.Heroes/Low World Tour. His greatest band ever, one of his greatest setlists, with several songs never done live again, with a stunning neonbar lightshow and his stage presence. His first big world tour and id taken two tiny little dots that made it very surreal. Those 78 shows are greatly loved today by all Bowie fans. A similar concert experience to yours, witnessing your most loved album played live in front of you. Its a masterpiece indeed, and i first heard it around 77. Theres a long story about an older junkie lady i lived with who loved it and she sure showed me the dark side alright. I was lucky to get out alive after 2yrs. I really, really love Anyway. When Peter sings like that, that tone, he sounds like the greatest singer of all in rock. I just want that song to keep going, i want to hear him like that over and over. I can see how Supertramp got inspired for their brilliant Crime Of The Century album. Actually you spoke of interpretation, i think Selling England By The Pound is one of the great album names. I dont think Peter is recognised for his brilliant rock voice enough. When i first heard Shock The Monkey i was stunned. That unique rock voice, and the song builds till about 3mins and shifts gear wonderously. Genesis, their sheer level of creation with music and vocally also, a real supergroup of musicians and writers. Well, you did ask Peter a great question, the best one you could of really.

@Cathode Roy after hearing that Jason Falkner song i looked into a bit of his work. Been with Beck, Aimee Mann, Travis, 2 x songs of his on a McCartney album, thats huge, and you said St Vincent too. Thats very impressive, and he did a song on a Jeff Lynne tribute album. Ive only seen a bit of St Vincent and i liked it. I really like her joining forces as she did with David Byrne. Loved his early solo work and of course American Utopia, i saw that concert and his legendary live THeads performances and those icon first 4 or 5 THeads albums. The Once In A Lifetime video is one of my alltime faves.

i have always loved this album. A few years ago I was told my father was a sniper in the Middle East during the Second World War. I don't know if that is true. I always understood he was in charge of paying local suppliers in Cairo. Which he did very well and was asked to re main there to continue doing so after the main Australian battalions were sent to New Guinea. I prefer to think he helped the locals, which I am sure he did;
