Advaita Vedanta is a Hindu sādhanā, a path of spiritual discipline and experience, and the oldest extant tradition of the orthodox Hindu school Vedānta. The term Advaita (literally "non-secondness", but usually rendered as "nondualism", and often equated with monism refers to the idea that Brahman alone is ultimately real, while the transient phenomenal world is an illusory appearance (maya) of Brahman. In this view, (jiv)Ātman, the experiencing self, and Ātman-Brahman, the highest Self and Absolute Reality, is non-different. The jivatman or individual self is a mere reflection or limitation of singular Ātman in a multitude of apparent individual bodies.

Such a wonderful teacher Rupert Spira, and both of you made the explanation even more wonderful ! Advaita Vedanta is the Ultimate philosophy which one can experimentally practice in their lives.. Oh I thought of saying this, your "Raise ourselves and Raise the World" chant is similar to Ramakrishna Mission's motto written in the symbol , made by Swami Vivekananda, "Ātmano Mokshartham Jagat Hitāya cha" meaning "For one's own salvation and for the salvation of the world" 🙏

it is picture of Mount Meru where according to buddhism. Lord Buddha sits at the top of mount in center. In our sanatan Dharma we say lord Bramha sits there.

@@Sayontan2694 actually as said in Sanatan Dharma when a person reaches enlightenment or self realization " I am That", then he become equivalent to the creator and it's creation in terms of consciousness. then there is no coming back for him. So here the whole creation is just imagination of Bramha. So Buddha reached the final stage of Eternals here. Now there is no coming back on earth. But as you know creation is like this. The eternal purusha is Lord Shiva in his heart Lord Vishnu resides and in his mind Lord Bramha. So when dissolution happens all merge into one and become One from Many. So here in this yantra of creation as considered by Buddhist principle Lord Buddha is the One for Buddhist. Which in the end becomes formless supreme consciousness "The Eternal Shoonya" or for us the Eternal Shiva (Sada Shiva the Formless one) or Par Brammh.

@@Sayontan2694 yes from Linga purana Krishna due to his past Avatars. from Nara Narayna he became Vishnu, from Ram he reached Maha Vishnu so he was Avatar of Highest order. He had 16 characteristics as Krishna Avatar as said by Sages. Being The supreme Gayatri as said by him he has total 24 characteristics. So above now after Krishna departure he has 20 dimensions of knowledge. He is at the top almost just below adi Vishnu The supreme soul. Remember all this is just the consciousness that manifest itself to the lower levels so that it can experience itself through us. It has its ways but once you go beyond Janah loka you get plugged to the higher channel. So just meditate to know your true potential.

The experience of suffering is real, but the identification with the body and mind that suffer is temporary, based on the accumulated attachments and impressions, and can be transcended. It is best to acknowledge the experience of suffering, offer appropriate consolation and support, and when the disturbed emotions have calmed down, gently offer an alternative to the experiences of suffering. Offer a pathway toward the nondual (acceptance/rejection) existence after the basic needs are met. Thank you for this important reflection on potential sources of "spiritual abuse" and the immature neglect of basic needs.

The statement "There is no one there, and there is nothing to do" is ultimately a pure materialism, and in reference to the atoms. Thus, Advaita interpretation of Vedanta was originally there to bring atheists into the fold of Vedanta, as their first step back into the divine existence. In and off itself, Advaita interpretation was not meant to be a final conclusion/destination. It had a very specific utility at one specific point in history/timeline.

Consciousness is present all the time. Even in deep sleep, when our mind is not experiencing any activity, consciousness is experiencing a sense of 'I' and it's the sense which is giving identity to the activity or the person or other things. Jai Shree Krishna 🌷🙏

Perhaps someone can help me. I'm from the Zen traditon and ever since coming across Nisargadatta Maharaj, Vedanta had been an interest. The hang up for me is how do we know conciousness is universal? I can see how "we" are both conciousness and also have the two truths of the seemingly finite identity, but how do we know it's universal and actually predates matter? Is it a matter of just faith?

Its what is meant by Consciousness do you mean That which is Prior to anything? as I understand it, the Absolute Eternal Self or Existence itself becomes Consciousness on different levels in the relative world in its fullest expression in a human, because of the nervous system and large brain it can became aware of itself , it is asleep in the rock as there is no nervous system but its still there in every atom.. "Thou art That "which is prior to the manifest Universe, cannot be described but it can be known as what we call Consciousness or Awareness, so one could say it is Universal as it is Brahman ,Self in different manifest states All is One not two... Nisargadatta says "The Real does not die,the unreal never lived" ...

Although i am dvaita believer but he really failed to criticize them i mean advaita is far more stronger philosophy and he just didn't held the core topics. 5th jagadguruttam "shri kripaluji maharaj" breaks advaita philosophy easily with his numerous points from vedas.

I agree. Advaita is so much more than what Rupert said, all respect to him. It takes the vasanas (obscurations or psychic knots) that inhibit direct seeing very seriously. Neo-Advaita claims descent from Ramana Maharshi, even though he left no lineage. And he himself spent years in meditative seclusion after his awakening at 14, integrating his enlightenment. Advanced yogis would come to him only after years of vigorous purification in order to receive the clarity of his presence that would cause final awakening. Many others sat in his presence but did not become awakened, because their vasanas were too strong. Neo-Advaita teachers in the West have really fallen down in this respect, with miserable success rates as a result. Adyashanti, Eckhart Tolle, Mooji and others are guilty of this.

yes flow state! is non doership and doing happens spontaneously. all is gods doing. with no identity of seperation. pure brahmic bliss satchitananda always remaining abiding and aware of the samadhi silent one unmoving one at rest and allowing shakti lila to dance. pure play positivity purity presence. transcendental pleasure beyond the physical pain and pleasure. words happen. mind is used as a tool. never to create suffering again. always used because of this bliss to be. simply playing, being, boundless beauty. honesty. authenticity. union. no judgment which is suffered. no hesitation. no doubt. no psychological suffering. samskaras can arise but are seen through in this light always remaining in flowstate. always seeing both sides and their unisory nature inside you pure awareness. no teaching here just sharing playing or singing the one song, the art of life, art of love, the song of bliss being.

I'm not a teacher but at nearly 80 here is my take on it, maybe you're not interested ?. here goes anyway. Existence is here in the relative world as all Beings and "creation" ,it is also the Absolute Being , which is everywhere ,being Absolute, no limitations, it cannot help but being everywhere in this that and everything, it is the same in essence, but appearing as different forms,there is no separate spiritual world, all is God one could say, oops the G word.... in essence a leaf is the same as a diamond ,it just appears different When I say " there's nobody here" it means the accepted meaning ,Name and form the egoic person is not the real identity, its made up,doesnt exist its not here really, obviously there is a body sitting here with that name......that's all but is it really solid? as atoms ,the total body's atoms would be completely lost on a pin head it would nearly impossible to find them ,the rest is space.....so to say there's nobody here is very nearly the truth...the body just a bag of wind HA HA There is only existence itself, SELF. masquerading as Jon Smith,there are millions of Jon Smiths or the equivalent in other languages.. Jon Smith is simply a local ID thats all, its not really the true essence. If someone came into the room and asked, is SELF here? then all who realised the SELF would put their hand up, HA HA SO it would be more accurate to say"The SELF who is masquerading as Jon Smith please put their hand up,you are wanted on the phone." As for suffering ,obviously something suffers mentally and Physically..we all know that,but the unborn essense the Absolute SELF surely cannot suffer...or can it..... ? Love,the old Wind Bag.

Rupert seems to be limited to physicality and the ego in a social environment where suffering and other sensational reality is part of the ego . if one practices enough detachment towards the ultimate and the conventional reality , then the Oli would not want to be in an environment where people could consider Oli to be a mental patient if he did not respond to his name .So the spiritual journety is far deeper than Ruperts experience . First there is the power of mind over body ,which is very much perhaps in Ruperts realm of understanding and from where he seems to be coming , however there are enough examples of yogis and budhist monks who have done "ichha mrityu " (death of the body at will ) which is at a different level of consciousness , or being detached from food and insect bites and other distraction while in deep meditation for example .

This is all true, but these yogis do not DENY that food and insect bites exist from a certain perspective. Neem Karoli Baba could apparently go without sleep, but he didn't deny that most everyone else needed sleep. He could probably go without food as well (as many yogis can conquer the need for food, but overcoming the need for sleep is even harder), but he would still go to people's houses and eat many meals a day. He never seemed to get full from all this eating, but he would do it as the meals were prasad, and he never denied that others needed food. Neem Karoli Baba was so enlightened that he is an extreme example, but the point is that he still recognized the twofold reality.
