To have gone so far, so deep, leaving so much behind, in search of the truth, and to have spent years just to find nothing: that's the state that so many of us dread. The man's story was so real, so hurting to hear. And the compassion with which you responded to him, Rupert, is something I was grateful to witness. Thank you very much!

Well stated, but did you catch the paradox? Finding nothing is what so many of us dread after searching for awhile, and it becomes one of our greatest fears. Yet, until we TRULY discover no-thing, we have no option but to continue seeking - or just give up. (Which has also been known to work.) Until I began the process of deliberately facing my fears (beliefs and emotions that keep me stuck in personhood) I realized my spiritual gains will always be fleeting. Many such beliefs are so deeply rooted, they’ve proved more powerful than what I once thought was impenetrable insight. Yet, like so many, I soldier on; which also proves certain insight can withstand fear. (Truth has power). Perhaps facing down the ultimate fear of being nothing at the very beginning is an option. Then again, judging by the extremely limited few who do, (Ramana for one) I suspect most will have to accept that awakening is a process. Takeaway: If we’re afraid to look at whatever keeps us stuck; stuck is where we’ll forever remain.

@@brettneuberger6466 Thank you and with you! No need to "look". Those fears will come and go. Yes, see, but "give up" as you say. Let these things go, let them pass. Then where are you? WHO is left? Is that not Who was always there the whole time? ...and these fears and dramas will come again and again. But maybe that "who" will see them for what they are... impermanent ripples🤔 No need to amplify them into giant waves, unless of course, you really like to go surfing some time.😄

Let go of the notion of there being any state that you can end up in. There is no "state" at the end of the road, because there is no end of the road! There isn't even a road. This right here is it! Right now!

I’m sitting here next to my wife. I look up and am aware that I’m aware that I Am. And that that aware presence that is experiencing her, is the same awarene presence that is looking back at me through my wife’s eyes experiencing me. We are One appearing as an apparent two. There is only One. if only he could see his own Being. I feel for him.

My heart goes out to this man. I kept asking myself the same thing... what am I (I as in Kim) missing? What am I missing? What. Am. I. Missing?! Then one day it clicked: There is no Kim to be missing anything. Slowly, identification with this self I've called Kim for 46 years has been unraveling. Now it's just a matter of recognizing habitual mental patterns as they arise, and not letting them take root. There is nothing missing, and I hope it finally clicks within him too. ❤🙏🏼

Meanwhile awareness was present every step of the way, quiet, subtle, close and yet far away…I remember frantically looking around my house one day for my keys…asking my brother and then my sister if they had seen them, then my mother wryly smiled and said have you checked your hand yet! This question reminded me of this beautiful poem , by Spanish poet Juan Ramon Jimenez. Yo no soy yo / I Am Not I Juan Ramón Jiménez Translated By Robert Bly I am not I. I am this one walking beside me whom I do not see, whom at times I manage to visit, and whom at other times I forget; who remains calm and silent while I talk, and forgives, gently, when I hate, who walks where I am not, who will remain standing when I die.

It is so easy and yet so difficult. I believe that in part, the severe difficulty lies in our minds needing US to be something (an object that can be grasped). The mere fact that we are nothing more and nothing less of an empty screen on which all appears, is so hard to understand. That what we call the Self is only that. It is nothing and at the same time, everything. We are not the turmoil on that screen. We hold all turmoil in our awareness. It is so fine, single-pointed - it is vast and yet only one unit, containing everything, while being nothing. We are the ocean holding all waves, all wave-lessness, in all of its permutations - and yet all is only water.

If one can imagine stopping the search for something that they know not of, turn the arrow around, be acutely ( not rigidly) alert, there you will find what you are looking for, there within you in the subtle presence of silence is the one , life-force, uni-verse, every present vibrant life… Yourself! Your own being, your essence!

That was very tender and truthful. Who hasn't been 'apparently' obscured by our own butterfly tendencies, in our search for what is, what has always been the obvious-mystery of 'I am'. Our propensity to 'think' our Is-ness is dull and colourless, can find us returning to the experiences rather than the experiencer.

@Living_universal
@Living_universal 2 жыл бұрын
For anyone seeking truth , most importantly start off by being honest to your self and try not to know anything because there is nothing to know , you are already appearing as something so what you are looking for cannot be an object of your experience, two things cannot meet. You are already what you are searching for just be still and allow everything to happen, the technique I used when I just realized the truth was simple close my eyes and listen to everything around me and that was it . It hurts me sometimes to know that there’s so many people who doesn’t know that they are responsible for this whole universe and also not know this truth is the root cause of suffering, wars etc in the world. I only decided to share this to confirm that what Rupert speaks of is pure truth and the most obvious. Also remember your mind is a reflection of god(the self , consciousness whatever you wanna call it) so it can give you all the answers you are seeking for and they all would be wrong . You are already here before anything , very subtle inquiry for those who are seeking whole heartedly. This is a knowledge you must know before you die or else your life here on earth wasn’t truly complete, only when you find this truth is when you truly start living. ❤️❤️❤️ love you all.

Just stop thinking for for a moment Benji. What remains? That's it. Being remains. The thoughts will immediately come back of course, and maybe any bodily tension, but realise that the 'being' remains as well. In fact, the thoughts & tension are made up of the being. Keep going there, even for short instances, & eventually you'll start to see that this being is always there, alongside everything else (in fact it is everything). Also keep listening to Rupert's talks. Those that resonate with you, keep listening....As he said, you're already there. 🙏

There is no sensitivity here to people's readiness and level of integration. There is a difference between very "ripe" seekers and ones with deeper blockages and delusions that distort the whole character for their lifetime, creating low-grade depression and ruined relationships. Sure the guy is avoiding the direct awareness of himself - etc, etc, etc. But there is no doubt a deeper character issue here - meaning the mind is very clouded. The pure teachings of awareness aren't enough for people like this. Constantly repeating that he already "knows" awareness won't work. The buddha and others talk about how they address different seekers according to their level. That's not happening here. Rupert only speaks from "on high."

@@momsazombie1 Yes - consciousness, God or spirit is unchanging and perfect already. But it's the mind states that block the awareness of that. We can preach to people forever about the inherent perfection of their real self, but that is not really the "medicine" they are in need of. People like this need to go through a kind of therapeutic "yoga" of relational and cognitivie healing to see any real gains in clarity.

@@michaeldamian5750 This has certainly been my experience. I reached a place of lightness, peace and contentment when I finally got some CBT to help me with anxiety. I started to face my fears as challenges to be overcome rather than demons to avoid and the blockages released. Within a few days my life was completely different - a new home, new people entered, new opportunities, it was like a rebirth - I was able to enjoy the sensation of touching wood, being able to move my body, looking at a coloured object and at the same time nothing seemed so solid, so serious, nothing to fear, everything was interesting, magical, vibrant and in a way beautiful and I felt love towards everyone....they also started to respond to me differently, smiling at me in the street, having nice conversations with strangers. I felt like someone and noone. I guess it all depends where the blockage is. It lasted a few months before the neurosis crept back in and took up residence.

Focusing just on being aware, or recognizing awareness, will not - will NOT - heal the profound lack of inner love or sanity or understanding that many people have carried for a lifetime. They will say "I KNOW I am aware. I have moments of clarity. But I am deeply suffering. I have no purpose [etc.]" You can binge-watch spiritual videos forever and not heal that inner mess. Because you need a depth approach to your psyche, not just a clinging to awareness.

Yes, it would be spiritual bypassing or perhaps toxic non-duality. Everyone has a different neurology and is in a different place. Relaxing into the 'backspace', the awareness, might be right for one person, for another something else is needed. For example instead of trying to jump over yourself into the transcendent oneness, being with what is, in your emotions and body will get you to the same place. Once the blockages are felt and released, spaciousness opens up naturally and it will be much easier to sense the background of Being. If you're depressed, confused, anxious, all knotted up energetically (and not even aware that you are!) it's going to be hard, and perhaps an escapist enterprise, creating a surface thought-based layer of spirituality, that sits on top of the pain body. We don't want that. We want an integrated spirituality that can flow between the Human and the Being part as needed.

As Osho once said, people can go astray and become even attached to non-attachment. Wherever you try to go, you go away from yourself. When you focus, you always focus on an object, an element of experience, again you are astray. Good luck, hang on a little longer.

Not sure if my comment came through. Personally i would recommend ACT (Acceptance Commitment Training) to help identify one's own Values as well as the 'Observer Self' (as opposed to Thinking self) - and then take committed actions in line with those values to lead to a meaningful life moment to moment to moment. Also Byron Katie's 'The Work' maybe useful to get over some niggling thoughts / misconceptions / misunderstandings. eg. How does the thought 'i am missing something' make you feel. (FOMO?)...and 'Who would you be without the thought that i need to arrive somewhere else'? I understand some may say these are more conceptual methods and techniques - yes they are...however like wood rubbed together to make a fire, the wood gets burned up with the fire itself... Likewise like concepts and methods we use a raft to get to the other shore, but when we are on the other side, we can let the raft go... However ultimately i agree: "The firm conviction that there is neither bondage nor liberation is the supreme purpose of all efforts." - Ramana Maharshi

I’ve realized now that I’ve seen awareness. I just can’t stabilize it’s recognition . It’s to elusive . and It’s really strange and soothing at the same time . But the objects of awareness really take the fist plan very easily . I’m just beginner anyway …

I’m also doing the same, Trying to stabilize this recognition. But after millions of years of unknowing being in the chain of evolutionary process I think being this much aware is also a lot. Now we have to practice every moment being present, Every actions being present, every conversation being aware and maybe this might help to stabilize ourselves. However, if we try to stabilize this recognition as an objective experience it’s gonna be a lifelong problem. Gotta be very aware of what we are doing.

@@lazaroortiz9546 I am not forcing myself nor anyone should in the practice of meditation . This process of recognition of awareness unfolds naturally over the years as I was told. I am “doing” mostly objectless meditation witch doesn’t require any concentration ( shamata in the Buddhist tradition ) - just sit and relax , that’s it !Your awareness is already present. If you do it gently your mind will accommodate in a healthy way :-)

Thank you Rupert for this gentle Guidance you shared with us. Most of us have gone through similar experiences. In our exasperation running to the Noisy mind for its next manipulation. And we are all for a different drama the mind preents. Until we come back home in despair, shame, and more self-criticism from the mind. We don't know it has been always there deep within in one's Surrender to the Silence, Stillness, Emptiness of the emerging Aliveness, unconditional Acceptance, Peace of Awareness And we still continue to vacillate between our Identity as the Mind and As Awareness/Consciousness. The despair etc slowly passes and we experience glimpses of Happiness. WE begin to see. Nothing that we went through is in vain.

The tragedy of every quest: endless and hopeless. The man in this video has completely turned away from life in his quest. He is totally understimulated and therefore depression has entered his room. This awareness teaching is not going to help him out of that. In fact, it will take him further into the swamp, because the message feeds the feeling of the seperate person: this is not it. Seeing a doctor and restore the contact with family and friends would probably be a better idea. May be with the help of some medication. And hugs. To finally come back to life again. Wish him all the best.

Compared with many of us , the activities You did ( yoga , martial arts etc... ) are anyway more interesting than what most of us do, making to overlook our true nature : attachment to our families , searching for love , eating , sex , tv , sugar , alcohol etc...So as a seeker You will come out of the search with a better health and less damaged . Your courage to share Your story and Rupert's answer is one of the best I think for many of us !

For many people, there is not a chance in the world that Rupert's teachings can address the psychological and developmental wounds that are causing great suffering despite all the seeking -- especially if the person has some kind of low-grade narcissism or other significant character issues. These teachings are better for very integrated people. You can immerse yourself in teachings of awareness for years and not deal with the distortions and blockages you carry within. Awareness would be a starting point. Certainly something to abide in and know as your real nature. But that alone will not break the ice around people's hearts or meet their profound need for love and self-understanding. It's easy to cling to "Awareness" and the brief spells of peace it brings, without ever looking into your psyche. It's not a depth approach. Knowing that "I am present" or "Awareness is always present" does not heal all that. It is a starting point. Without a depth approach people will just cling to an idea of awareness and continue to avoid their deepest distortions and blockages.

Michael i agree with what your saying, more subtle understandings of our nature do not penetrate deep identification, it's can take time to peel the layers of the onion back. But the other side of this is a person's path , the path through it's suffering heals. When a person is ready to be honest and really look they start to see. No one can make another ripe.
@michaeldamian5750

@@lukedevcich7840 Yes if they're ready to be honest and really look, they can start to see. But that's a big "if." I have worked with many seekers who will need a great deal of help to become ripe and simple and subtle in their perception. They can be seeking for decades and still carry deep distortions.

@@michaeldamian5750 I believe it I think we all have experienced that at some level. Do you find through your work you can help a person have more self honesty and willingness to look and go into those things. As that is the direct cause isnt it, self honesty and a desire or willingness to go there, are you saying that there are teachings, guidance etc that can cultivate or help lead a person there?

Advaita is another belief system, if that's all you know. It's partial and has a shadow side, a tendency towards nihilism, passivity, dissociation etc, and can get you more into your head than out of it, tricky stuff! It also mirrors the background of it's teachers. I think Rupert has a more philosophical background with SES and Francis Lucille. An awful lot of people need a lot more emotional self-awareness first, waking down as well as waking up!

Anyone ever step back and wonder why it seems not only elusive to many, but many more aren’t even interested in it. A person has to be able to see their life is unfolding for them in the way it should, unless they make inner changes. What isolates a smaller percentage of the population? Personality types? Why can’t humans see themselves in cycles that they create by hanging on. Hmmm

He said he gave up everything ‘all his attachments’. It’s not about giving up ‘physical things’ such as family, friends, money etc it is about giving up your unhealthy negative egotistical needs and demands for these physical worldly things that are your 'attachments' that are controlling your life. There’s nothing wrong with buying a shiny new car if you can afford it. It’s when you feel the need to buy a shiny new car because you need it for your ego to show off and distract yourself from your insecurities and problems and you think the new car will make you feel better and solve your problems, which it will seem to do so in the very short term. Usually it’s a case of buying a big expensive car that you can’t afford but you believe ‘the bigger the better’ the greater you will feel and the deeper you will bury your problems until the shine wears off the new car in a relatively short time and your problems resurface and it’s now even worse because you have a bloody big financial car debt to deal with as well, all thanks to your ego.

I empathize with you Iva. I’ve been down the same road many times. Even after recognizing I am all there is, I can get stuck in frustration over and over again if I’m not vigilant. Rupert’s teacher, Francis Lucille, often suggests living an impersonal life once we realize our true identity as the I Am; which he explains simply, as smiling at life and it will smile back. In other words, he tells us to put out understanding to the test and let the results speak for themselves. This seems to somehow transform expectation into acceptance. Easier said than done, but it might help. My best to you!!

The way I heard it, Bendi sounds like he has fallen into the trap of Meaninglessness. Bendi seems to have had some non-abiding awakenings but there's still enough ego left to also feel depressed about the idea that there's nothing left to do. For more info, check out the book by Adyashanti - The End of Your World. Chapter 6 describes how non-abiding awakenings can be corrupted by the remaining ego. The book clarified many aspects for me.
