Right after chicks hatch it's been observed that birds of all kinds(as well as other animals) will follow the first person/other animal/etc they first lay their eyes on. It's called "imprinting." It's been hardwired into their brains through evolution. Ever watch Jurassic Park? Remember the scene where the owner of the park has the visitors come to the parks lab where a baby velociraptor is just being born and then he tells them about trying to make an impression on the dino's right after they hatch so that they become a lot easier to work with if they get sick or when the park employees are forced to interact with the dino's in some form or another? I'm sure Donnie wasn't there when the goose was born, but if he's the only human around and a human is what was imprinted upon the goose then if he's the only one around then the goose will inevitably follow him EVERYWHERE he goes.

PS. Geese can be pretty damn aggressive. If you actually did want one then I would suggest getting an incubator, some goose eggs and be the first thing that bird sees after hatching. Then not only do you have the equivalent of a real world bird NPC that will follow you to the ends of Earth, but it won't be so damn aggressive... At least to you.
