The opening winter scenes are lovely. Snow is not unusual in Toronto but to be honest, we have had very little so far. Thank you for taking us back to warm October. That house is magical and so are the gardens. A wonderful way to spend your day and recharge. Your candlestick purchases look terrific. Time to finish my tea while listening to Gregorian chants, a Sunday tradition.

Happy new year, Gillian! Wonderful video as always! And your kindness enhances my life! So thank you! I don’t currently have chickens. But as a kid in Shreveport, Louisiana, in a suburban neighborhood with just yards and no chicken coop, every year, just before Easter, I went through a chicken ritual. While my mother shopped in the A & P grocery store, she would let my brother and I spend our hard earned allowance at the T G & Y dime store, where they would always sell these colored baby chickens! And every year I would buy me a little colored chick, come out to the car with it safely contained, and it’s white little box with holes, and wait for my mother to come out of the grocery store. And every year it was the same thing. She’d say, “ you can’t have that chicken” and I would say “Muuutherrrr, once you buy them, you can’t take them back”. And so every year, I raised a chicken in my kitchen with an upside down laundry basket as its cage. And then when they got too big, I would either give them to my grandmother’s maid or sometimes donate them to our local zoo. So I could visit my chickens at the zoo. My mother was so sweet, even in my rebellion! But this went on for years, and I probably raised at least five or six chickens. And they all lived, except for one, “Peeper”, who we buried in the backyard after an elaborate funeral. So that’s my chicken story! I’m surprised in your beautiful video of the snow, that the grass is so green underneath that snow. Here in the US, most lawns turned brown in the winter. Perhaps it’s a different kind of grass over there, but it was so beautiful seeing the bright green that the snow had not covered! I love your New Year’s resolution and yes, we should not let stress get to us! We must choose to live “blessed among thorns”, meaning, no matter what trials we go through, there are so many blessings that we can count and so many others who have it worse than us and we must count our blessings even among trials! That is one of my favorite sayings! And as the “good book” says, count the trials as joy, for they produce character which produces endurance, which produces hope! Was35 here in Florida last night 😎My friend has a chicken that knows y car when I pull up in the driveway, proceeds to jump up in my lap if we’re sitting outside, thinks it’s a dog! Cuando era pequeño, mis padres nos llevaban a Sierra Nevada, cerca de donde vivo, y allí si nieva bastante, pero aquí en mi localidad solo he visto nevar un año, así que es hermoso ver la nieve. Another wonderful adventure into your whirl Gillian! Also, I ordered and received the "Watercolor in the Woods" by Jane Carkill. It's a wonderful book, I love her introduction to water color and look forward to trying my hand at exploring with her instructions. I paint with oils and it does take longer to finish a painting, so this is a wonderful way to render a piece quickly. Now just need to order the materials to start. Thank you for introducing me to this awesome book and artist.
