Is that military police escort, just wondering cause of the gorgets? Swedish monarchy is class, army uniforms look Prussian.

British monarchy is better

Exactly, This whole thing looks very republican, from the King being a guest at the state opening instead of presiding at the ceremony to the lack of regal regalia displayed or worn by the royals.

@@truetory6231Well, here in Denmark the King isn’t even the one who holds the opening speech. The Prime Minister does that. It’s been that way since our Constitution was amended in 1953 by popular referendum.

@@az929292 I'm aware of all that already. Denmark and Sweden are alike in that regard. But it's still republican looking. I much prefer Norway's ceremony. It makes the monarchy front and centre similar to Britain, Netherlands and Spain. Sweden and Denmark has the King as a mere guest in his own parliament

Just a temporary replacement. New old-style helmets are on the way. The old ones had to be replaced..

This is really quite bizarre. Why bother with any ceremony for the opening of the Riksdag if the event is completely devoid of the traditional formalities that make a ceremony a ceremony. And why persist with a monarchy if all of the symbols and traditions of the kingdom are no longer incorporated in the event. However you choose to style this event, it shouldn't be hard to figure out what sort of music is appropriate but on this occasion, the music is so profoundly inappropriate that it seems like the whole event is comedy. As an architect, I love Stockholm because of the extraordinary architecture, both ancient and modern, but the Riksdag legislative space has to be the most banal, uninspired legislative space in Europe. I'm not objecting to it being a modern functional space. The Bundestag is likewise devoid of architectural pretense, but this space seems intended to lack any aesthetic quality as if good design is an unacceptable extravagance for Swedish legislators. You might say that the British overdo it at their State Opening of Parliament with crowns, orbs, scepters, ermine robes, gold carriages, trumpeters, and on and on. But Sweden, this is pathetic. Next year, just rent the ballroom at a three-star hotel in the suburbs and have everyone come in jeans. Maybe the King can arrive by the Metro. Those horses have got to be expensive. ...or don't even bother to invite the King.

I agree with your points. The British have simply continued doing what they have always done (without an orb or sceptre by the way) - its continuity. I have great respect for the Swedish Monarchy which is, like the British Monarchy, a force for good but it’s a terrible shame that almost everything has been ditched.

Anyone know what the Gustav is for after Carl XVI?
@ruralor5 күн бұрын
It's his name, Carl Gustaf. His grandfather was Gustaf Adolf. They have double names, but the regnal number follows only the first name. It has long traditions in Sweden. Ie. Karl Johan. Actually, I think it's the most common way to solve it when a king has a double name. The other option is to do like Juan Carlos of Spain. He started using the regnal number I, just to make it clear that he was not Juan III, he was Juan Carlos I. Same with Pope John Paul I, if he hadn't specificly used I as his regnal number, he would probably have been known as John XXIV.
@spoffspoffington5 күн бұрын
@@ruralor Thanks for that. We don't really do double Christian names in England: I'd always assumed it was a Roman-Catholic thing as in France and Spain. But as you say, even the papacy don't split the name with the regnal number. So no (trs) JohnXXIVPaul or JohnXXVPaul🤔 Interesting video as always. But it rather lost me when they confused their State Opening with a jazz club.
