Back in the day they used to play whole sides of albums on the radio. I didn't have the money to buy them when I was 12 so I recorded most of this on cassette tape, along with caress of steel, and Hemispheres. First album I bought on tape, Permanent waves.
@charlieross-BRM5 жыл бұрын
7" reel to reel decks for me. CFNY was the best station for playing full sides. Weekends started with draft beer at Charlie C's on Fridays with school mates, Saturdays we'd dress up better and take our girls/dates out for dancing and drinks; then after the clubs closed, an all night diner for hours of coffee and short order food. Geddy Lee would maybe remember some of those places. I'd get bored and tune out the conversation and slip out of the diner to go home in time for David Marsden on CFNY. Set up a reel and record off FM until about 4 or 5 a.m. Catch some Z's, go to church with my parents, come home and play Black Sabbath albums while mom made lunch, LOL, and so on. I'm possibly mixing up some of the years involved, but life was good.

John Doe It's not just him I as a 17 year old Canadian collect Cassette tapes, Reel to Reel and 8 Tracks mostly like prog rock nothing compares to the ethereal cassette for some reason may it be the warm analog sound or flux of a spool of tape lodged in the tape mechanism there's nothing as timeless as a cassette tape especially listening in instances to Rush, Gentle Giant or The Tragically Hip where there albums I my opinion sound much better on tape.
@RageTVHTX5 жыл бұрын
TwinMillMC mp3 or AAC just doesn’t deliver audio in the way a record or tape (not that tape is all that great) does. I quit buying my music from iTunes and started redoing my collection as ALAC files. BIG difference
@paulj0557tonehead5 жыл бұрын
I completely wore out a Rush Caress Of Steel cassette tape back in the early 80's. Actually I should say I wore it _in._ The more you play a tape, yes you start to lose high frequencies and tape hiss becomes more audible, but there is more that happens on a molecular level, in that you are physically moving the particles around a little every time the tape, and it's magnetized particles cross the physical tape head...long story short, quite often the pleasing analog sound you are hearing from audio tape is the result of many plays! In the case of my especially warm sounding Caress Of Steel tape, the title was appropriate because audio tape is made of oxidized steel particles.

First time for me was Cobo Hall 1978: I had long blonde hair and a pocket full of ludes. I never took my eyes of Neil banging the drums. I was amazed.

@@techboysf I agree I think if it had been John Rutsey the sound and direction of the music and lyrics would have been totally different and would have been a completely different Rush.
