All 3 have had crosses to bear, so to speak. A lot of integrity and meaning especially went into the finale of this album, which takes a very divergent song from the others and makes perfect closure to the theme of Clockwork Angels (and Rush ultimately to the end).

I'll never forget where I was: in the car with my dad coming home from a short day-trip. The album had released the week before, but we didn't have time to listen to it and swore not to listen to it until we could listen together. The album was such an incredible, roasting jam, and then The Garden came on. That was one of the only five times (I'm 20 now) I've ever seen my dad cry. We didn't say anything, but we both knew that this song was a farewell, at least from the studio. Their last message to the fans was to cherish every moment we have because they won't last forever. Forever dwells in that moment, but that moment does not live forever. The only thing we can do is have hope for another day, another moment. I've been lucky to attend 5 concerts from the time I was 8 (Snakes and Arrows) until I was 15 (R40). All front row. 2 meet and greets. 1 time backstage. My dad absolutely abused the fact that I was a cute little 8-year old that knew RUSH lyrics to get some backstage passes when the roadies were setting up at Kansas City on the Snakes tour, and I'm so grateful for it. Neil gave Lorne his sticks from the first set and told him to give them to me. All. five. times. Neil recognized me as I grew up, or just appreciated a kid air-drumming his heart out. We still have those beaten up sticks, and they are priceless to us. No amount of money in the world could ever make us sell those sticks. To Geddy and Alex: Thank you for your music. It truly has impacted people on a deep, personal level, and we will always be forever grateful for it. We all wish Neil could still be here, but we know how close he was to you guys, and we could never come close to imagining the pain that you are probably going through and have gone through over the last few years. Wishing you both the best health and love. Thank you.

*6 Rush songs whose lyrics of Neil Peart move me to tears* *Afterimage* - Written about the death of Robbie Whelan, the sound engineer for the Permanent Waves album. The lyric that gets me: _Suddenly, you were gone From all the lives you left your mark upon_ *Red Sector A* - Written about the atrocity of Geddy's parents in Nazi concentration camps. The lyric that gets me: _I hear the sound of gunfire at the prison gate Are the liberators here, do I hope or do I fear? For my father and my brother, it's too late But I must help my mother stand up straight_ *Losing It* - Written about those who've had a talent or skill, and have lost it...leaving them heartbroken. The lyric that gets me: _Thirty years ago, how the words would flow With passion and precision But now his mind is dark and dulled By sickness and indecision And he stares out the kitchen door Where the sun will rise no more_ *Nobody's Hero* - Written about the death of a gay friend to either Neil or Geddy(unsure), and of the death of girl who grew up in Geddy's childhood neighborhood. The lyric that gets me: _As the years went by, we drifted apart When I heard that he was gone I felt a shadow cross my heart But he's nobody's...Hero_ *Ghost Rider*- Written about Neil's travels trying to overcome the sudden deaths of his daughter and first wife. The lyric that gets me: _Pack up all those phantoms Shoulder that invisible load Keep on riding north and west Haunting that wilderness road Like a ghost rider_ *The Garden* - Neil's swan song.The last song, of the last album Rush ever recorded. The lyric that gets me: _The measure of a life is a measure of love and respect So hard to earn, so easily burned In the fullness of time A garden to nurture and protect_ I am devastated by the loss of a musician whose lyrics have been with me since I was 13. I am now 45, and in tears. #RIPNeilPeart #neilpeart #Rush

Deathshuck The way they do it (in addition to lots of practice and dedication) is by living clean and taking care of themselves. They didn't get caught up in the whole sex and drugs part of the music business. Sure, they probably experimented with drugs in their younger days (Geddy jokingly referred to drug use during the 70's in an interview once.....not sure if he was really serious), but they certainly never became addicts (like Ozzy Osbourne or the guys in Aerosmith).

It's searingly painful isn't it? I "came back" to Rush about 6 or 7 years ago having had a long absence. Neil's death has really toppled me, maybe because I was only just beginning to get back on track after losing my brother at the end of November. This song is so much more than a song. It's the most beautifully worded spiritual teaching, direct and frank but tender and encouraging. Hey, we're on this one-way journey. Life is so precious and not to be wasted because it will conclude, that is the only certainty. Yesterday is gone, tomorrow will soon become yesterday, all we have is the here and now.

Maybe it's the 3 or 4 well-deserved glasses of The Macallan I've had tonight, maybe its seeing The Professor sitting behind his kit, maybe its the memory of the dozens and dozens of concerts I was fortunate enough to see, maybe it's a combination of them all. This video brings me to tears. If you're a true Rush fan, you'll get it; and to you, I say: Aren't we lucky?

In this one of many possible worlds, All for the best or some bizarre test? It is what it is and whatever, Time is still the infinite jest The arrow flies when you dream, The hours tick away, The cells tick away The Watchmaker keeps to his schemes, The hours tick away, they tick away The measure of a life is a measure of love and respect, So hard to earn so easily burned The measure of a life is a measure of love and respect, So hard to earn so easily burned In the fullness of time, A garden to nurture and protect In the rise and the set of the sun, 'Til the stars go spinning, Spinning 'round the night Oh, it is what it is, and forever Each moment a memory in flight The arrow flies while you breathe, The hours tick away, The cells tick away, The Watchmaker has time up his sleeve, The hours tick away, they tick away The measure of a life is a measure of love and respect, So hard to earn so easily burned In the fullness of time, A garden to nurture and protect (It's a measure of a life) The treasure of a life is a measure of love and respect, The way you live, the gifts that you give In the fullness of time, It's the only return that you expect The future disappears into memory With only a moment between. Forever dwells in that moment, Hope is what remains to be seen. Forever dwells in that moment, Hope is what remains to be seen. You have to give the band credit. They never lost touch with themselves or their friendship over 40 years of hard work, hard times, good times, tragedy, recovery. I was at R40 in Toronto lining up to get my concert T before the show and another fan asked me if I was sad. I said no, I wasn't. He said but this is going to be their last tour. I said yes, and I am not sad, I am grateful that they gave us 40 years of their lives, produced some of the best music and very happy that they are going out at the top of their game, on their terms, without ever selling out.

On November 17th my grandfather passed away. He was a strong man who loved giving gifts to people because he could and didn't need a reason. He was also very passionate about both the garden he grew, and his family. We came to realize that we, his family, happened to be another garden that he raised, nurtured, and protected. He taught us that about love and respect. And the week before he passed away from liver cancer, all I could do was listen to this song, seeing the arrow fly with each breath he painfully took. Needless to say, we had this played at his funeral. It described him to a T, and I am so thankful that RUSH wrote such a beautiful song. Now if I could only listen to it without crying and thinking of my grandpa, I'd be pretty ok. n-n;

I’ve just discovered rush. I’m a 54 yo Aussie. While I have diverse musical tastes, hard rock/heavy metal has always been my thing. I was always aware of rush. I liked Tom Sawyer and spirit of radio, but never really got into them more than that. Bored one night I watched the lighted stage on Netflix and really enjoyed it. I like music focos, so nothing special. The Neil Peart died. I was in Santiago, Chile, in a shopping mall, killing time, and came across red barchetta, liked it, and bought moving pictures that night. Witch hunt grabbed me. The drum fills, so musical, but like the sound of rolling thunder. It was the lyrics that got me, though. Then came limelight, the one about the camera... then I bought 2112... great songs, but lessons got me. Then permanent waves... entre nous and the song after it.... wow. Then I bought hemispheres.... the trees.... villa strangiato..., and now this.. I know I’ll by this album tonight. I know I’ll by all of them eventually. I love rugby league, a violent game. I box ( not good, but I’ll mix it up). I’m not afraid to say I’m was crying during this song. Like so many that I’ve heard, it resonates deeply with me. This guy was a genius. They were geniuses. I love kiss. I love black sabbath, but I know believe that this band was the greatest band of all time. Longevity, body of work, skill and general awesomeness... I’m just glad I found them.

I am convinced that Neil knew while writing this song that he had cancer. The lyrics are telling. It’s placement as the last song on the last album further convinces me of this. The fact they retired again further has me convinced. He needed to spend what remaining time he might have with his family. I may be wrong. I don’t know. What I do know is that he is sorely missed. I have not ever been so affected by the loss of a celebrity life. His writing and his playing have meant an incredible amount to me. Such talent and with humility. He just wanted to be the best. There's something very special about musicians that can affect such a massive amount of people in so many ways. They've inspired you to play music, they said something that you thought only you felt and helped you not to feel so alone, they've reminded you of that special time you shared with special people, they gave you strenght and hope to get through whatever it was you doubted yourself for. The last song of the last album. And so Neil Peart, the Professor, is nurturing and protecting his garden beyond the clouds. RIP my lifelong friend.

He lost his daughter and first wife in a span of 10 months in 1998. Of course he knew things. But "The Garden" wasn't a premonition. It was much more than that. Please. Do some research.

This song and the song called "Losing it" has to be one of the most poetic songs ever written both lyrically and musically. IMO 🙂
