The older I get, the more I appreciate the musical complexity and poetry that Rush always provided. Bands like AC/DC sound wonderful to me, as a kid. But they end up not having as much lasting power over me. While they are great at what they do, you get the feeling that most bands didn't put as much thought, creativity, and musical diversity into their work quite as much as Rush did. I would put them on the same par as Pink Floyd or even the Beatles (later career), when it comes to their complexity. They were true bohemians and they were always experimenting with their craft.

Tonight I listened to 34 Rush songs for the first time and I can say their music has inspired me to change some of the things currently restraining me. Albeit, it's 2:30 in the morning, but this is a feeling not often experienced, and for it to come through music is beautiful.

My husband tragically lost his stepfather to a heart attack in 2015. His FAVORITE band was Rush when he was alive. About a month or so after his death, my sister and I were out for a drive together, and there was a crappy hip-hop song playing on the radio as we were talking. We'd actually just mentioned my husband's stepdad at that exact second. The song on the radio stopped abruptly, mid-tune, "Fly By Night" suddenly started playing, and my sister and I just looked at each other. It was almost like he'd heard the music and said, from above, "Hey!! Turn that sh*t off and play something good!" (We left the song on) That's what I like to believe anyway. It just seemed too 'weird' to be a mere coincidence. 😂

I´ve got a little story concerning this song: in 1983 a school friend took me to the house of a neighbor who played the drums. There we entered a room where there was a five-piece clear fiberglass drum kit set up. The guy turned on his record player, which had big and loud speakers, put the needle on the record, and flawlessly played along to this song, and to Anthem too. I still remember how that bass drum made my chest vibrate with every hit in that tiny room, as well as the smell of the cork lining. That was the first time I heard the sound of a set of drums, the first time I saw a real drummer play, that close... and the first time I heard Rush! That day changed it all for me.

well not tryna trigger ya but lol i never heard it like that, so if people did i wouldn't really blame his voice. Plus slurs in people's vocals are more unique, so not really worth complaining about. When i can hear the words people say in songs very clearly in my head it makes everything judgemental and defined, its better when its slurred because u dont have this attachment to every word it just flows like sound it no longer feels like a word.

I am ashamed to say, I do not know most of rush's lyrics. Hearing these songs for close to 30 yrs, you think i would.

I recently traveled on my own from California to St Louis Missouri. On my way home on a social media post, I said in chess terms, I got to play the king and queen instead of pawns, which I took from this song from the line “it’s time I was king now not just one more pawn.”
