Dang... ridiculously awesome accuracy, bro. I always thought the bass on this song needed to be cranked up over the synth. It changes the song to hear it like this. 👍 To add, some live shows had Geddy's bass so loud it lost the mixing sweet spot.

Thanks. I wasn't sure whether to use the steinberger and try a more wal like tone but since I was playing to r30 I thought I'd just use my normal jazz tone. I do think it works very well on this song! Glad you enjoyed the vid

How on earth does Geddy do it? You do a great job of covering these songs maybe the best I’ve seen! But The mind that conceived of the parts! How?

Thanks for watching! Yeah thats why I consider him the best bass player ever. No one else writes bass lines the way he does. They are so fluid and yet never stop being 'bass parts'

Rare to see anyone do covers of the R30 show which is an unfortunate as it's one of my favourites. Hoping to see more from it in the future! Could you do Earthshine (R30 Live) at some point?
@hemibass2 жыл бұрын
I will probably use r30 quite a bit more because of how well I can remove the bass from the mix. It was a great setlist too lots of ones I play a lot. I've never learned earthshine before but am happy to give it a go after a couple of other vapor trails songs. Thanks for the suggestion!

@hemibass2 жыл бұрын
Thanks! It's a Japanese one from the 00s. I'm on the lookout for one of the crimson red USA ones but only because I love the colour. I'm very happy with my mij one in general (and considering it was only 600ish pounds when I got it in 08ish it's a lot cheaper than the us ones too!)

@@hemibass The Japanese models are sweet. That $1600 price tag has kept me from getting an American made model too. :)

That sounds fantastic. I see you're using the SansAmp 2112 as well as the Trace Elliot preamp. How are you running those two together?
@hemibass Жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching. I'm going to do a 'rig rundown' type video if I get to 1000 subscribers so I'll go through it in detail if/when that happens. In short I have the trace and one channel from the sansamp going into my palmer and the other channel from the sansamp straight to the interface/mixer

That opening riff is so much fun to play! Excellent work. How do you go about isolating/muting the original bass track in these songs? I've tried to do it in the past but never got very far.
@hemibass2 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I use moises. It's a software that lets you isolate the parts (to an extent). It's very good with some of the more 'bassy' Rush albums (like the modern stuff for example) but all the punchy top end on the Wal era ends up on the guitar track instead of the bass track. I would recommend it though
@Delco422 жыл бұрын
@@hemibass I'll give that a try, thanks!

You pluck the intro the way i do it, with 2 fingers. Geddy plucks that entire intro with his index finger. Idk why but he seemed to like to do some things the harder way. There is absolutely no reason to do it with 1 finger, but he does.
@hemibass11 ай бұрын
Yeah for a long time I did it with one finger like he does, but I ended up just preferring it with 2 fingers. I'm not sure why he does it that way. He also does Turn the Page with his thumb for the open strings on the Show Of Hands era footage, which I also found uncomfortable. Thanks for watching

Heyy! great tone!! What settings you used on Tech 21 Ged-2112 Sansamp?
@hemibass2 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I have everything at roughly 3 (on a clock face) with treble down at about 10 because I get a lot of the top end from my trace elliott. Then I just tweak from there
@epeli45852 жыл бұрын
How are you getting that "R30-ish" Geddy tone out of your bass? I can't figure it out at all
@hemibass2 жыл бұрын
I'm not really sure tbh haha. I pretty much always go for a different stages sound on my jazz. Geddys r30 tone is bit duller than what I normally do but as my strings get a bit older the pop becomes less pronounced (which I like to an extent) so it could be the strings being a couple of weeks old on this one?

This is awesome! Would you mind if we add an isolated track to our web page? We are a new non-prof. platform that will enable Rush fan-musicians to combine their tracks with one another. We are hoping to form a large enough community to attract more attention to the 2112 tribute foundation for glioblastoma research, the deadly disease that took NP from us all too soon. Many Thanks!
