The 1981 Rickenbacker 4001 in this video is my first Rickenbacker that I got brand new in October of 1981, purchased at Biasco Music in Chicago (long gone now) for the price of $649.88. The 1980 Burgandyglo 4001 in my other Hemispheres prelude video was bought on Ebay in 2003 and that was $810.00. Older 4001's like these, in great condition are going for anywhere from 1-2K on Ebay and elsewhere. Some early 1970's 4001's are even more. Thanks for watching!

I wouldn't say the Badass bridge changes the tone as much as it might help with resonance and sustain. The Badass intonates more quickly and the individual saddle height adjustments are also an improvement over the original Ric bridge design. Back in 1981 there weren't a ton of aftermarket bridges to choose from and if the Badass was good enough for Geddy, then it was good enough for me. Thanks for watching.

@MrCONTROSTERZO The cabs I use with those amps are old Acoustic 106 (2X15) The sound you are hearing is the direct signal from the amps. So, I think you could get a similar tone with that 1001RB II since the 700RB II amps have the same tone sections. The only difference is the extra power that the 1001 has. Those cabs are used for live applications only. Thanks for watching!

That is a Badass I bridge that was installed in 1982. Easier to adjust intonation quicker and also for individual string height. In 1982 there were still few choices for replacement bridges and I didn't really like the orignal bridge so, since the Badass I was good enough for Geddy, it was good enough for me too.

He is fairly accurate in time, notes and intonation. A little strong but at least he doesn't colour it and add his own character as others do. He plays as it was intended. Very good job. 👍. R. I. @@66TJP Ur welcome sir. Keep up the good work. FYI: I was a music comp major in college, Asst director, charted marching bands, I wrote and played wind and percussion. Low brass and percussion my favorite. I tinkered a bit w/ piano/keyboard/synth and strings but never really went far. I also repaired instrunents - Strings, wind, percussion, electronic, accoustic. I mixed 6 of 9 albums 4 a local band in the 80s. I was head soubd engineer 4 our, then, concert venue location. I did a few big groups. Then I shipped out on full time military duty. ( I was part-time prior). My hearing is very accute as is my timing. The Navy wanted me as a Sub Sonar Tech. I told them it was 2 noisy down there, I don't play well w/ others, I don't like 2 B confined and I like 2 fly. In a nutshell I'm a very meticulous engineering person. I disected things I am unfamiliar with, study and reassemble. I improve that which I am familiar. Music included. I choose music by it's mechanics. If I transpose it on paper and/or play it I probably like it. Except the crap they have out now done on a confuser. That is not a musician. We have time, intonation and knowledge. They don't. Again... Keep up the good work.👍

Are you playing with both pickups at the same volume or do you bias it towards the bridge pickup? I just got a 4003 and I'm quite new to how to get the tone I want from it
@66TJP6 жыл бұрын
Yes, both pickups are full up. I do EQ each pickup a bit to bring out the tones I want but they are both full up on the volume. I do, however, play (right hand) a bit more to the neck pickup at times because I think it sounds more punchy there. Good luck with your new 4003, Sean, and enjoy !! Hey, thanks for watching...

Yeah I have the new Sansamp Geddy Lee signature pre amp and I can get the moving pictures/exit stage left tone pretty close with it. Hi, I was wondering as to how low your action on your Rickenbacker is? You seem to have a fairly aggressive touch on the strings, but I don't hear any fret buzz nor clank (when the string hits a fret upon attack). What's your secret?!
@66TJP9 жыл бұрын
+2112gil No secret. I have fairly low action with some buzzing here and there. Maybe the "secret" is running the bass in stereo. The tone possibilities open up at that point. Rotosound 66's too.
@quatzu8 жыл бұрын
Hey I just asked a very similar question on one of your other videos. I can't help but be very clackety against the very last fret no matter how I set up my 4001. It doesn't seem like a matter of easing up on the attack, since you and Geddy attack very hard. Are you saying you are able to cut out those clackety frequencies by running in stereo?
@66TJP8 жыл бұрын
You know, I have played Rics that are "clacky" but for some reason, my 4001 doesn't have too much of that. Maybe running in stereo might reduce some of that but I'm not so sure. You will have a lot more options with the tone of each pickup when in stereo, especially if you have decent tone sections on your amps and for that reason alone I'd try it.
