The funniest part about Rush is that Ayn Rand -- whom Neil Peart idolizes -- would have hated their music (read "The Romantic Manifesto" if you don't believe me). So who is stupid here? Neil Peart or Ayn Rand, or both?
@AlexandreRibeiroXRV76 жыл бұрын
Peart changed his worldviews from what they were back in the day. He's no longer an avid admirer of Rand's writing.
@1997lordofdoom5 жыл бұрын
@Daniel Michael No, Ayn Rand and her ideology is pretty much the epitome of stupidity, that's why so many far right individuals follow her and that's why a genius like Neil Peart saw through her idiocy and changed his beliefs.
@georgestacey95585 жыл бұрын
@@1997lordofdoom I was very happy to find out Niel was influenced by Rand, for a couple reasons. The combination of Rush and Rand gives music that I can connect with that rational optimism on a continual bases, even when the philosophy of the lyrics are a shade or so different Niel's sense of life mostly remains within the heroic (more or less). Ayn Rand celebrated the heroic in mankind and for someone who was swept up in the tragic for many years that is so welcomed. Tell me of another band that has more then 2 or 3 songs with that sense of life, hard to do, and what is rare and good is that much more valuable. I am not a pure Objectivist, my personal philosophy is more complex, for one I think people's joy of enriching other people's lives is quite essential to our natural mode of survival, yet given time she may have come to the same thought, and expanded on her own thought. To begin a whole philosophy isn't likely easy, you have to counter your own doubts and glitches alone, and so to me judging a new movement PURELY (naturally to a degree, one must) by the founder is reckless, though Rand would have expected to be judged.
@georgestacey95585 жыл бұрын
@@VioletDeliriums I disagree in part, I think if she understood the drama unfolding in the music, and she could always have commented on misunderstandings a young Neil might have in regards some of her philosophical points, and so she would have likely seen some value in their work. After all she loved Victor Hugo despite the difference in political views. She was capable of liking and disliking certain qualities in a work of art, and Rushes something Randian is a big something and much better then nothing.

I appreciate the lyrics on the screen so thanks for that. Been listening to Rush for over 30 years and over that period its been hard to pay attention to the lyrics because the music behind them is so @#$#$ amazing. There is video of them on the soundstage recording Hemispheres. They rehearsed this for weeks and recorded the entire album live on a soundstage, in one take. That's not a BS story, it is a well known story among old school Rush fans and there is even a video I used to have, but have since lost. They recorded video of doing this as well and is was once available on VHS. That's what really makes Hemispheres the greatest rock masterpiece ever recorded, that they essentially played it live!

Kavik Kang mmmright...why does it even fucking matter whether it was don in one take or not? I bet this tack was done in one take and it says more in 13 seconds than Rush's entire discography without spoon feeding the audience with preachy lyrics. kzbin.info/www/bejne/f6Gug6p_h5J8bNU

The giant chunks of lyrics are just lazy. That's no way to present the song, so people can't help but read far ahead. I can't use this to introduce someone to Rush. It's too distracting. We'll just have to muddle through without the lyrics.
