Side one is iconic but I find myself listening to side two the older I get. The Camera Eye is my favorite song on the album. 😊

Definitely an incredible Side of music from my favourite non-British prog band. And there's a whole host of competitors to rival , but no one gets near in my view. Love the Live album ' Exit.. stage left ' from this era in the band's long history. Such infectious hooks are the key to this bands deserved longevity , not forgetting of course Peart's lyrics and incredible drum skills , Lifeson's dynamic guitar genius , and Geddy's all round musical abilities ( the way he uses his voice is one of the best instruments in Prog-rock !! ) Fabulous stuff. Great video Nathan and Jana. 😍

Hi. I hope that you both are well. I have a personal interpretation of the song “Red Barchetta” I own a 1967 Ford Galaxie 500 2-door hardtop. Coincidentally it is painted candy apple red. When driving it in the summer months in the Milwaukee, Wisconsin area, it gives me the same feeling as what I feel Rush is trying to portray in this song. Especially when remembering the times spent cruising in it with my beloved late Wife. Listening to progressive music while driving my classic car lets me remember my younger days while growing up in the 1980’s. I’m 55 years old now but listening to this great music especially while driving my Galaxie with all of the windows down and letting the big block 390 V-8 engine sing really makes me happy. I can still remember the feeling on my wedding day in 1998 with my beautiful bride sitting next to me, her vibrant white wedding dress contrasting the black vinyl interior. Listening to classic old Rush really takes me back to when I was young more than any other band. I apologize for me rambling on and on in this comment but I just had to let people know how important progressive rock music is in my life. It really helps me cope with the loss of my Wife in April of 2022, by letting me remember the positive times that I had with my Wife. Thank you and your beautiful wife for taking the time to produce these videos. I really enjoy watching your videos when I don’t have that many instances of happiness the last couple of years. Have a nice day! ❤️

First album side y’all reacted to that I can think of was side 2 of Going For The One, which consisted of Wonderous Stories/Awaken. Which I still thank y’all for doing when you shuffled into Awaken.

You could have a college course on RUSH's music, and one on the lyrics. But, still someone who is not a hard core prog fan but who has an open mind like Jana can still totally enjoy it with her prog-meister husband. You don't have to be in "the club" to get it. Not to forget, its over 40 years old as well. Thanks folks! This is going to be a great month!

When Neil wrote the story and lyrics the was a debate raging in the Astronomy sciences about Cygnus X1, whether it was a black hole. Later it would become accepted that it indeed was a black hole detectable only in the X Ray frequencies. Cygnus X1 is a real thing, Neil is writing about something from his interest in scientific pursuits.

I agree with Jana on Red Barchetta. I feel the music real does embody the vibe of a car ride/chase. Especially the high hat work at the break, with the staccato guitar and syncopation with the kick. Feels like an engine running with a sense of urgency. Great reaction!!

Hi Nathan & Jana. Dave from London here. A classic album side, although my favourite Rush albums are Hemispheres and Grace Under Pressure. Favourite song here definitely Tom Sawyer. I re-read the book quite recently, and the link with the modern day equivalent here is probably Tom's adventurous spirit.

For me, Limelight is part of a four song playlist: Jukebox Hero - Foreigner Turn the Page - Bob Seger Limelight - Rush Shooting Star - Bad Company Similar to Wonderous Sories and Awaken by Yes, for me these four songs in this order tell a story of a single person on a journey. Yes is of a spiritual acolyte attaining nirvana, while these four is the sad tale of a musician.

Rush just made their songs shorter, and added synths in the early 80s...the synths got heavier as the 80s progressed...which some would call a style change. They were still doing prog, but, simplified. The 80s album Hold Your Fire, however, divides Rush fans(the hit single Time Stand Still especially)
@caryd6710 ай бұрын
If fans are divided on HYF, I’m on the AWESOMENESS side. I consider that album the pinnacle of Rushs’ career. I wish Geddy had stayed with Wal basses; it sounded fantastic. Aimee Mann was a bonus treat; the only criticism I could offer about that album is: the videos are terrible, and so was Ged’s haircut.

@@caryd67 agree regarding the videos, but, it was the 80s🙄

I almost passed this one up just because I feel like I've heard these songs SO many times now. But I wanted you guys to get the like and the listen. 👍 Listening to this again made me realize how much shorter albums used to be, in a good way. The whole notion of 'Hey, I've got 70 minutes and I'm gonna use all of them!' makes me think of all my graphic design clients who look at white space and say "I'm paying for that so I'm gonna use it!" "Red Barchetta" is based on a sci-fi short story about a future where automobiles are outlawed, and the 'alloy air car' is the police of the future. Re: Rush in the 80's, the biggest changes happened with 'Grace Under Pressure' in '84 and then 'Hold Your Fire' in '87, which was the height of their 'synth-pop' era. They slowly turned the ship around over the next few albums with 1993's 'Counterparts' widely considered to be a return to their hard rock beginnings.

Someone correct me, but I swear that the current mix of MP is notably bass heavy. Especially in the instrumental parts. I listened to MP a lot (bought it in '82) and it seems, as they've gone through and remastered their albums, MP has a more prominent bass mix. At least that's how I remember it up until the last 2-3 years when listening to it on YT. I need to revisit some of my own instances, purchased 10+ years ago to see if it sounds the same.
