Clockwork Angels is their Prog metal album and their only full length concept album. The perfect final album, I recommend the songs Caravan, BU2B and The title track, great openings to the album.

Those of us that appreciated the denser songwriting of Vapor trails and snakes and arrows after Neil’s return (take a little longer to appreciate, but increasingly rewarding, at least for me), were not surprised when they put all the pieces together for this fantastic swan song. Anarchist is a banger and Alex’s Middle Eastern tinged guitar. Solo puts it over the top. It feels like you’re cascading down a mountain as lightning flares behind you it’s so menacing.

I appreciate this comment. I like VP and S&A, too. VP took me a longer than most to get used to but I love it. So many great tracks.

After essentially giving up on the band in the early nineties, it was so comforting that they left us with such a remarkable return to form. Despite what i considered too many duff albums in their latter years, i will always love Rush for the truly unique outfit they were!
@ginamarandino64516 ай бұрын
No synth on this song actually they hired a string section and they took them on the road when they did it live which was amazing!!! This whole album in my honest opinion is probably their best work ever done. You really need to listen to it from start to finish because it's a true conceptional album ending with my favorite song of all time for Rush the garden.

You should do Headlong Flight, the titular track, and The Garden from this album if you haven't already. But to truly enjoy these songs, you gotta listen to the entire album. It's a concept album and one of their best works, as a whole, in general.

When control and oppression in "Hemispheres" do exist. There is always a special role for the "Snakes and Arrows" of The Anarchist. Burn down, blow up, re-educate the powerful, the corrupt. Cynical people who do not feel. "A Farewell To Kings" and their "Counterparts" with the "Caress Of Steel"!!! Peace & Love.

Any Rush fans who don’t like this album don’t like the heavier Rush or haven’t listened to it. I can never work out which is my favourite on this album. The Anarchist probably isn’t, but I still love it. Great reaction Justjp.

JP. You're on the right track. Want to find out what the Anarchist does? Well, you'll need to listen to the next song on the album called "Carnies".

Clockwork Angels is definitely an album you need to listen to from beginning to end. It is an incredible album, and the strongest album put out in 20 years before they disbanded.

This is one that really thrashed me on first listen, the arabic swoons, the coherent anger, it seems to be consciously harnessing this energy rather than pointlessly expending it. This album is an unreal magnum opus, a glorious swan song of a piece. Maybe the best last album by any group.

The Anarchist in the storyline is the villain that is up to no good. Yes, I really like this song off the album. Halo Effect is another one that is a fav.
@daneng36416 ай бұрын
I think he meant the Anarchist and the Watchmaker to both be villains, trying to bend the protagonist to their extremes, not unlike Apollo and Dionysus in Hemispheres. I suspect actually that they might be the same person, or working together. All distopias need a scapegoat so the Watchmaker supplies one. Maybe I'm reading too much onto it.

The 2:00 and 3:55 mark (in your video) always reminds me of 'Turn a Square' by The Shins to me. It's always a fun listen, and thanks for sharing it with us! I've missed listening to Rush with you.
@shawnlilly59346 ай бұрын
This concept album is exceptional. Neil has written a book to accompany the story as well. When listening to these songs it’s important to remember it’s all in the same universe. The anarchist is against the watchmaker and the clockwork angels

Late period Rush is far superior to late period Yes, Genesis, Pink Floyd and, imo, superior to anything they did in the 90s. This isn't too adventurous but is solid rock.

What do you mean by "late period of YES"? They've only just really started🏁
@jfergs.33026 ай бұрын
Not bad, if perhaps a tad long. Largely quintisential Rush, but there were snippets that had an almost goth feel to them. And the secondary vocal popping up reminded me of Sabbath. Still, overall not bad.
@paulcollins55866 ай бұрын

It's more of a metal sound than I like, just a wall of sound. I suspect you're right about Geddy's weakened vocals, I think they've been treated on this track as well. An album I've only played once, too loud for my aging ears.
@a.k.17406 ай бұрын
Not bad, but not great either as far as I'm concerned, because musically it's déjà vu for Rush, plus the sound is rather compressed (although less so than their previous three albums) and I've had trouble memorising their melodies since Test For Echo included. There's no denying that Counterparts was Rush's last great album.
@Owlstretchingtime786 ай бұрын
Incorrect. This excellent swansong was after years of mediocrity!

@@alibabaschultz352 Easily my least favourite since Signals. And I thought S&A was awful. They proved me wrong. 😥 Apparently Deep Purple is "back together" I listened to 3 of them and god daaaaaaamn its not good. Those geezers should have stayed in the bingo halls. People don't realize that good things don't last over time. Who wants to see Yes anymore? Steve Howe with a bunch of fill-ins? Nah... Hell, even Dinosaur jr is there. Last 2 albums were piss. People like to say that a band is "evolving" when simply and truly they are running out of musical energy. I don't particularly care for Beck but Beck is a prime example of an artist that indeed does evolve. Like him or not. I cant think of a band I like that hasn't gone to shit. Yes, Genesis, Rush, ELP(ESPECIALLY!), ELO, Keane, Janes Addiction, Cocteau Twins, Duran Duran bla bla blaaaaaa I don't like Coldplay at all but their first album was great. I thought they had potential when I first heard it. Then the second album left me cold. No pun intended. Then some shit duet with Rhianna? PASS All my favourite bands turn to shit. And thus... that is life I suppose.
