Thoroughly enjoyed that. They were greasing the wheels for 2112!

" the mountain holds the sunrise in the prison of the night til bursting forth from rocky chains the valley floods with light" what's not to get? The mtn. In the east, so the sunrise is held by the "rocky chains" of the mountain as opposed to a flat horizon. The Valley is in shadow until much later than the official time for the sunrise. They are great lyrics

I have never understood why this was so underrated. It was pure genius, just as good as what Genesis had put out on Selling England or Yes had out on Fragile or Close to the Edge. Rush should have given this some justice by playing it live in later years as a mark of respect. NB Archives sold really well in the UK, so Caress of Steel was more popular than is generally perceived.

If I could only have 2 Rush albums caress of steel would be one and permanent waves would probably be the other.

The Necromancer was the second after Bytor and the Snowdog and followed by 2112. Although the fake assed critics didn't get it this was part of the ascending star that RUSH became.
