The studio location was so special to Neil Peart that he purchased land nearby (on Lake St Victor) and built a cottage/cabin that he would visit throughout his life. Sadly, the studio eventually went bust, fell into disrepair, and was eventually destroyed by fire. It's just ruins today.

When they wrote this, they really hit one out of the park. It's just a perfect song. It's somewhat simple musically, but is lyrically deep and it's structured differently. It engages you right from that very first note and holds you through to the end. It's a masterpiece. #TomSawyer

I read that LeStudio in Quebec (where this album was recorded) had the conga drums in the part of the studio where much of the vocal recordings were done. They were put there to give the singer something to do during the long, boring periods between takes when the producer and engineers were tinkering in the booth. It also gave them a pedestal to lean on. You see Geddy doing that here, as well as using one of the drums as a place to keep his ashtray (yes, he smoked back then.)

They made videos for Tom Sawyer, Limelight and Vital Signs while they were in the recording studio, creating the Moving Pictures album.

Regarding the music video: Both this one and 'Limelight' were filmed at Le Studio, which is the building you see in both and exterior and interior shots. As for the congas, I don't think Geddy plays them, but he seems to like to rest his hands on them in the Le Studio videos (he does the same in the music video for 'Vital Signs' if you haven't reacted to that yet).

This video is a bit deceptive in that it shows Geddy singing, playing bass and playing synths with hands and feet separately. When they perform live, he does all of those things, some simultaneously. His Jack of all trades multitasking is incredible to watch. If you haven’t reacted to it, react to the live version of Xanadu from Exit Stage Left (1981). It is their epic (12 minutes long) and shows this amazing band at the height of their powers.

Regarding the congas and bongos, Geddy brought them into their recording sessions to stave off boredom while waiting for producer Terry Brown or the engineer to "get their ducks in a row." As he described on page 319 of his memoir, "Because there's nothing more irritating for the producer to hear when he finally opens up the mic than me making an almighty bongo racket, and let me tell you, I can hold down a beat on the bass, but I'm a terrible drummer." He then goes on to describe what they did one time when Terry turned off his monitors while he took an extended phone call, which is guaranteed to leave you 🤣 🤣 🤣. Have a great evening, and Rush on! 🎤 🎹 🎸 🥁 🎸 🐐 🐐 🐐

What it has in common is that Tom Sawyer is a metaphor
@SnowDogisVictorious10 күн бұрын
Yes, the song was connected to Twain's character. Just read the first two stanzas: A modern-day warrior Mean, mean stride Today's Tom Sawyer Mean, mean pride Though his mind is not for rent Don't put him down as arrogant His reserve, a quiet defense Riding out the day's events The river PS - Technically, it's a literary illusion rather than a metaphor.

poignant defense, not quiet

Rush filmed a number of songs at Le Studio. It was in Morin Heights, Quebec. If you want to see the studio in the summer time please react to another excellent Canadian band April Wine Iike to rock official music video. Cheers

Look again. They are just there to set the ashtray on, and for Geddy to rest his hands. That was Le Studio in Quebec. Gone now, but they recorded a lot of music there.

What's the point of reacting to a song you are already familiar with?
