A few years ago in nz there was a new guy on a trawler who couldn't handle. He told them his father died. They sailed back in to drop him off. Gave him all the help and time off he needed. Then two weeks later the company dropped a basket of groceries to his house.. and his father answered the door.... lol

To people curious, he claimed to have served 10 years in the Marine Corps and to have received 2 purple hearts, a bronze star, and a silver star. He reported this to an Alabama court and the court gave him a reduced sentence for a firearm charge. (He wasn't allowed to have one since he was previously convicted of assault and battery, which is a felony in Alabama.) He got 5 years probation and 6 months home confinement. (I'm assuming this is the firearms charge they were talking about on the show.) This probation was revoked after he got arrested for another battery and the court found he "had provided untruthful information concerning his education and military service at the original sentencing hearing." He got 57 months imprisonment and another 12 of supervised release. So yeah, it seems pretty clear that he lied about his military history (or HIGHLY exaggerated) to get a reduced jail sentence. Honestly, why do all the stolen valor idiots pretend to have a million awards/medals? Like B R U H.

They know what the quota is prior to going out. The count is kept in a book by the Captain's chair. Most of the crew and yes, greenhorns too, will take turns on watch while everyone gets rack time in. They can all see the numbers and at offload they get the weight. Most regular crew are full share with greenhorns at 1/2 share. They can do the math.
