Thank you. This song ruled the jukebox when I was the DJ at Tiffany Pub in Palisades Park NJ. People did not believe it even existed!

We played this occasionally at KIQQ 100.3 in LA when "Rapture" was such a monster. It was a hit at my club gigs and house parties back in the day in LB/OC. Even before this came out and rap/hip hop became so popular I played "Rapper's Delight" for Bill Gardner who once aired it on his KVIL midday show while Chapman was in a meeting or otherwise not listening. Luckily the statute of limitations on violating company policies has run out.

Hi - Russ Mason here. I was indeed influenced by Rapper's Delight by the Sugar Hill Gang but I thought it would be fun to make it a little different. There's a clip of me rapping on ABC 20/20 if you can find it. Also the Tomorrow show. It was a very fun year doing this.

The name of the song is "La La." It's a French film (a la Truffault). There are no sung lyrics, they are spoken subtitles about my love life and its ups and downs.

Please, can you tell me, if possible, what is the music that inspires you to do the violin melody in 01:00 to 01:15 and from 01:42 to 01:50. I have the impression that I've heard this, but I don't know where. Greetings from France.

Ya know, you're probably right. "Prep Rap was at least five years before The Beastie Boys "Licensed To Ill" album was released. I think we played Blondie's "Rapture" right before "Prep Rap" came out, which was the first time a "white artist" had a hit with a predominately rap song. (Not including Elvis rapping in the middle of "Are You Lonesome Tonight" and many others like it that had a rap or spoken part somewhere in the song.)

Take My Rap Please by Steve Gordon & The Kosher Five came out in 1979, so no it's not the first, maybe the second or the third.

+Nash Burnette I was told that I own the rights. Trouble is, I have no access to the master recording. It's probably long gone now. Sorry.

Except, of course, that this is 30 something years older and has music and words, not just obscene mouth noises..

Tiania Dawson remarks, "lol just a remake of the other song like this with wonder mike" Does she not realize that this (Prep Rap, from 1981) is 30 years OLDER than the rip-off piece of crap by Wonder Mike? And the Wonder Mike video is so goddamn awful you can't make out anything but gutteral sounds, lip noises, cracking microphones, , and a few bits of perversion now and then.

I believe she's referring to the 'Wonder Mike' reference in "Rapper's Delight" by Sugarhill Gang which came out in 1979, and is two years OLDER than Russ Mason's "Prep Rap" (which parodies SHG so well) 'Wonder Mike' was one of the original rappers in Sugarhill Gang ("I am Wonder Mike and I'd like to say hello..."). Perhaps you're referring to something WM did in recent years that sucks. "Rapper's Delight" is a legendary all-time classic which singlehandedly jettisoned the whole rap/hip hop/street culture musical genre into our lives forever, like it or not.
