Michael Selden -- 1945-1997 -- was one of my favorites when growing up here in Oak Cliff - Dallas Tx.. I've always wanted to be a DJ..(Still do!! & I'm 53).. Michael had the perfect voice & his shuck & jive was perfect as well.. He's sorely missed as he passed away back in 1997.. To me, he was the DJ of the DJ's.. Just as Wolfman Jack was as well!! RIP Mike Seldon.. Never forgotten †

When you heard Mike Selden's voice on the radio you knew you were listening to something special. Loved his style too. Good to hear that voice again. He also did a stint at KFJZ where this listener ran into him. Great area for top 40 back in those days. KLIF, KXOL, KFJZ, KBOX. But KLIF was tip top! Sweet post. Again, thanks Steve.

@DallasPix I felt exactly the same way about Mike Selden! He was the very best of all. I had a major crush on him just by listening to him. I also remember the sad day when Elvis died, he was on the air and was obviously shook up and asked everybody not to call the station because it was true the King of Rock and Roll was dead.

The Apollo mission referenced in the brief news clip had to be Apollo 15 (July 26, 1971 - August 7, 1971) which again helps pinpoint the date.

Wow. Steve, thanks. Kick ass. I was in Dallas then I remember the Mike Selden KLIF am, KNUS FM thing . If I can ever unearth it, I have some off air reel to reel stuff from when Mike Selden was in Shreveport on KEEL doing a Mark Stephens Markie Baybe thing, I have some of the drops that Mike used . Mark was Markie Baby on KFJZ before he hooked up with Jim Pruiett, Not sure when they did.

WORKED WITH SELDEN AT KNUS IN DALLAS 1978-1979. ONE OF THE ABSOLUTE BEST. LOVED HIS PROGRAM END PLAYING LOONEY TUNES. MY CELLPHONE RINGER IS THAT. UNFORTUNATELY, IT DOESN'T INCLUDE THE PORKY PIG "THAT'S ALL, FOLKS". TODAY, THAT PROBABLY WOULD BE CONSIDERED MOCKING PEOPLE WHO STUTTER.

These pictures of Mike in the KLIF studio are fascinating and educational. I always thought that the jock faced the window at the "end" of the building (the one looking out over Cesar Chavez Blvd.). But it was the opposite; the jock had his back to that window.

And today the studio is gone and replaced with an emergency staircase for the restaurant that took over the building. I have many happy memories of my time there back in 76 & 77.

From a remark made by the DJ in this aircheck about this day being the beginning of the official 1971 NFL season, it is possible to exacty date this broadcast as SundaySeptember 19, 1971.

Nope....LA Rams vs. Houston Oilers was played Saturday, July 31, 1971. Makes sense as Mike never worked a Sunday in his life! :-)
