My dad was in third infantry division in WWII. Wounded at Anzio, received bronze and silver Star by the time they reached southern Germany at the conclusion of the war. One of many Audy Murphys in that division.

0:47. In Iraq in 2007 it was still SOP to have the 3ID patch on the side of the helmet. One soldier was killed in Tuwaithe shot in the head by a sniper. The shot went through the unit patch.

1/6th Infantry in Germany 92. Original Infantry unit dating back to Continental Army. We had every streamer the Army Flag had and it was damn heavy to carry on runs to Graf. Graduated PLDC in Graf. Hoenfels was last unit to do Reformer. We tore shit up. Never in my life until or since see M1 Abrams going 85 on the Autobahn passing cars in a column. Got to see what they did in Desert Storm we had 2 T-72s with small bore hole on on side and nothing on the other. Then went to 1/506th at Fort Campbell. Ended career back in 3ID at 4th BSTB at Fort Stewart. I was blessed with great units and leaders and Soldiers. 2nd ACR when at Fort Polk and 1st Air Cav at Fort Hood. I miss it at times. Rock of the Marne.

I ran the Vilseck Audie Murphy Boards and we took 38 to them Division boards with 36 being inducted. I kept up with records and packets. Thus, led to me running SGT Morales boards pretty much everywhere I went afterwards.even when I switched to Unmanned Aircraft in 04.

The bugle call at the beginning of the song is "To the Color (not colors)". It's played when the U.S. flag is lowered if a band is not present to play the National Anthem. To the Color follows the bugle call for Retreat. First comes Retreat and then comes To the Color as the flag is lowered. I was taught to stand at Parade Rest during Retreat and to snap to Attention and salute when To the Color is played. If available, a canon is fired between the two bugle calls.

Not to be offensive any vets out there : but could this be where Biden got his “dog faced” (pony) soldier idea from. Pony soldier could that be a WW1 or Civil war reference ? As I do know that the Native American Cheyenne in the early 1800s referred to themselves as “dog soldiers” .. something of high esteem. Leaving out the adverb “lying” in dog faced pony soldier.
