John Stewart fans, knowing some of Oliver's current approach came from there, might disagree. Also, as I've heard SO many Brits, including Oliver himself, say, Americans have a distorted view of English comedy. We generally only see their good comedy, not their enormous amount of bad comedy. If we did we'd have a less overly idealized view.

Matthew McNeany I completely agree, don't forget Irish too. Also cunt is a huge no no in the US, although Jim Jefferies is trying hard to use it whenever possible!! Mainstream US shows are getting so much better, in the past it was hard for the best comics, like George Carlin were considered too controversial but were doing brilliantly with their live shows, so the talent and audience was always there, but networks toed the line. Now with the internet we can all see how good American comedians are, that they are not represented by the likes of Jay Leno and the other bland and boring try hards. Michael Che is funny af in his stand up shows, the Daily Show has great people, Tiffany Haddish is fantastic, but on network shows, Seth Myers and Sam Bee are pushing boundaries, (I know Sam Bee is Canadian) but at last we are able to appreciate how good American comedians are, they are no longer hidden in the comedy clubs.

I feel really clever. I just discovered Russell last week, and after only one show, I commented that I'd love to see him with John Oliver, because their comedic styles would mean so well! Then I find this. Please will someone somewhere make a full show with these two possible? Pretty please?
