I agree about the present. The whole of the thing makes a difference. My mother never forgot, as a child in Great Depression, being given a whole hand of bananas, so understood when I wanted a whole roast chicken (the way she roasted them) to myself. Thanks for reminding me how happy that made 10 year old me, and how happy similar things have made my children. :).

I don't think you can do what he's doing in the UK. First off, you need a massive budget noone in the UK would be willing to spend. Secondly, the world isn't really interested as much in the systemic issues of the UK, so he'd shrink a potentially world-wide audience to just a UK audience. The way it is now, the non-sucking half of the US watches his show and the world watches it because we love making fun of how messed up the USA are. Of course, the premise here is that he'd do what he does now - which is clearly what he's best at.

My grandmother came to this Country from England. and she lived to be ninety nine years old. even though the last ten years of her life couldn't have been particularly wonderful. (for example) she would have to butcher a milk carton to get it open. and she couldn't lift a pan on to the top of the stove. and if she fell down she couldn't get back up. but she was the greatest person I have ever known. and I can remember her telling me many thing's about England. and how it gives me insight into people from Britain. and how I can understand people like John Oliver better. I have to always thank her for giving me a better understanding of Britain and British people. she was something else one of the best people I have ever known no doubt.
