One of the highlights of my life was seeing Russell Malone performing live with Diana Krall. His refinement and taste was amazing. I am in complete shock at his passing.

Russell Malone has to be one of the best solo guitarists alive...This arrangement is very sophisticated.

Russell seems to have some classical technique. I play this tune and can play along easily, but his finesse with harmonics is not easy to master with such ease.

Russell has influenced my straight-ahead playing more than any living guitarist. His swing feel will tear the hair off your head, then he’ll turn around and hit you with something like this. Pure emotion and mastery.

I was lucky enough to see Russell with a quartet at the Village Vanguard in 2016. He sure can swing and also, as we can see here, play with a delicacy of touch.

That was absolutely beautiful, this is the first time I heard you play solo, I hope all is well with you my brother. I met you one day when I was hanging out with Johnny O'Neal at phyllis's house back in Atlanta, I remember you was telling me you were going to move to New York very soon because you knew you had to do that in order to make it to the top my brother and you did just that, congratulations. congratulations..

Amazing rendition of one of the BeeGee's hits. Russell's talent to bring out all the beautiful tone and harmonics from his Gibson Super 400, is spectacular.
@Guitfiddlejase8 жыл бұрын
He's playing what is called a "Super V" here..not a Super 400..The Super V was developed by Bruce J Bolen in the late 70's..it was essentially a Super 400 neck stuck onto an L5 body..just thought I would mention it for the sake of interest..not trolling! best

Russell Malone is one of my favorite guitarists. I love the way he phrases his music. He is also an amazing accompanist. It is hard to accompany a singer like Diane Krall and find just the right things to put in. His playing on the Nat Cole song Krall does "you're looking at me" and his solo on it are amazing.

Heard Russell Malone play live at the Blue Note in NYC with the Ron Carter Trio last weekend. He was spectacular - both in his solos and his unerring synergy with Donald Vega on piano and the great Ron Carter on bass. This was a magical night - spellbound audience throughout the entire performance at the sold-out club.
